Marine Corps Stock Fund Included in the $1.4 billion inventories shown in Table 37 are $392 million carried in the Marine Corps Stock Fund. This $392 million of stock fund inventories represented 27.6 percent of the total inventories reported by the Marine Corps in its supply system. Approximately 29.5 percent of the Marine Corps stock fund inventories was in the General Supply stocks category and 27.3 percent in the Ordnance Automotive stocks category.

Of the distributed portion of the Marine Corps Stock fund inventories on 30 June 1959, 8.3 percent was classified as Peacetime Operating; 21.3 percent Mobilization Reserve; 16.8 percent Economic Retention; and 53.6 percent Excess Stock.

6. Air Force Supply System Inventories

The Air Force supply system inventory, including the Air Force Stock Fund, is presented in 17 categories, or material groupings, in Table 9. A brief analysis of the Air Force supply system data sho's that 47.4 percent of the total was represented by the category of Aircraft Components. Two other large categories, each with inventories of over a billion dollars were: Aircraft Spare Engines, and the Weapons, Ammuniton and Propellant:

category.

The total amount reported for the Air Force supply system inventories when compared with the amount reported in last year's report shows that the total inventories decreased $400 million.

The total reduction in inventories was accounted for by a decrease of $68 million in Stock Fund inventories and a decrease of $332 million in Appropriated Fund inventories.

As of 30 June 1959, 57.2 percent of the distributed portion of the Air Force supply system inventories were classified as Peacetime Operating; 2.4 percent Mobilization Reserve; 21.8 percent Economic and Contingency Retention; 18.3 percent Excess; and 0.3 percent Claimant stocks. Chart 11 shows the Air Force supply system inventories by these major classifications. A comparison with fiscal year 1958 shows that in percent of total distributed stocks, Peacetime Operating stocks increased about 7 percent whereas Excess stocks decreased by 5.4 percent and Mobilization Reserve stocks by 1.3 percent.

Air Force Stock Fund

Included in the $12.3 billion inventories shown in Table 39 are $437 million carried in the Air Force Stock Fund. This $437 million of stock fund inventories in the Air Force represented 3.5 percent of the total inventories reported by the Air Force in its supply system. About 53.9 percent of the Air Force Stock Fund inventories was in the Aviation Fuels category of stock.

Of the distributed portion of the Air Force Stock Fund inventories, 42.0 percent was classified as Peacetime Operating; 42.8 percent Mobilization Reserve; 10.8 percent Economic Retention; 0.3 percent Contingency Retention; and 4.1 percent Excess Stocks.
