West Germany: The chancery is Government owned, however, housing is individually leased. Facilities are equal to those held by the United States. Germany owns both their chancery and Embassy residence. The chancery is comfortable and spacious and compares favorably with that of the United States. Only the Ambassador is provided with Government-held residential quarters, and only the representational rooms are furnished at the expense of the Government. The Soviet Embassy in Teheran is contained in a Government-owned compound located in the center of the city. It is a large prisonlike compound of about four square blocks in area.

for the second ranking officer of the High Commission. The remaining officers and employees are housed in Government-leased houses located outside the compound, in various residential areas of Lahore.

Turkey, Ankara

Embassies and legations which first moved to Ankara built large establishments during the late twenties and early thirties the majority of which still provide adequate space and luxurious living quarters although some are now somewhat antiquated in appearance. Those which were established in recent years have either leased or Government-owned less pretentious properties that are more modern and have been better adapted to their functional needs. The following are some of the chanceries more recently built and reportedly more beautiful and functional than this Government's. Government: Italy-Government-owned combined chancery and residence. All buildings are most luxurious. SwedenGovernment-owned chancery completed in 1961. New and very modern. U.S.S.R.-New Government-owned compound which includes chancery completed in 1961.
