10. No stranger nor sojourner with the priest, (though a Jew), shall eat of the sacred things, nor a hired servant. 11. But if the priest purchase any with his money, (that was sold by the parents, because of their poverty), they shall eat of it, as being of his family; such also as are born in his house shall eat of his portion.

12. If the priest's daughter be married into another family, she may not eat of the sacred things. 13. But if she be a widow, or divorced, and having no child, be returned to her father's house, she may eat, as in her youth, of her father's meat.

14. And if any eat of the holy things unwittingly, he shall add a fifth part more to the remainder, and give it to the priest. 15. They shall not profane the holy things, which they offer to the Eternal (for the people); 16. Nor suffer them to bear iniquity and sin, in eating their holy things, for I, the Eternal, consecrate them.

17. The Eternal said also to Moses, 18. Say to Aaron, and his sons, and all the Israelites, Whatever Israelite or stranger, (who is a proselyte of the gate), will offer an oblation for his vows, and his free-will offerings, for a burnt-offering to the Eternal, 19. To be acceptable, it shall be a male without blemish, of the oxen, the sheep, or the goats: 20. But ye shall not offer what hath a blemish, for it shall not be accepted.

21. And whoever offers a peace-offering to the Eternal, to fulfil his vow, or a voluntary offering, if bullocks, or sheep, it must be perfect, or without blemish, in order to be accepted. 22. The blind, bruised, or maimed, or having the rot or dry, or pu rulent scab, ye shall not offer to the Eternal, for a fire-offering on his altar: 23. Nor a bullock, nor a lamb, that hath any thing superfluous, or wanting in its parts, for to pay a vow to the Eternal; but it shall be accepted for a free-will offering to the priests. 24. Ye shall not offer a male whose male parts are bruis

ed, or crushed, or broken, or extirpated; nor shall any such thing be done in the land. 25. Neither from a stranger (being a proselyte of the gate), shall ye offer a sacrifice to your God of any thing imperfect, because their blemishes are a corruption; they shall not be accepted.

26. The Eternal said also to Moses, 27. A bullock, a sheep, or a goat, shall be with its mother till it be eight days old, then and afterwards it shall be accepted for a fire-offering to the Eternal. 28. Ye shall not kill it and the mother in one day. 29. When ye offer a sacrifice for thanskgiving, to be accepted, 30. It shall be eaten on the same day, none of it shall be left till the morning, saith the Eternal.

31. Ye shall practice my commands, saith the Eternal, 32. And not profane my holy name, for I will be reverenced among the Israelites; I am the Eternal who sanctify you, 33. And who delivered you from Egypt, to be your God, saith the Eternal.

CHAP. XXIII.

VARIOUS FESTIVALS.

THE Eternal said also to Moses, 2. Say to the Israelites, These are the solemn days for festivals to the Eternal, which ye shall celebrate by holy convocations of the people. 8. Every seventh day is a Sabbath (i. e. a day of sacred rest), wherein there shall be a holy convocation (for the worship of God, reading and hearing his word); ye shall do no work in it in all your dwellings, (it is devoted to the Eternal, who, as the author of all your days, gives you six days for your wordly affairs, and reserves the seventh for his worship and service). 4. The other holy days (are not of so great obligation, the passovers excepted, 1 Cor. v. 7. nor of so long du ration as this, which continues from the creation to the conflagration); they are festivals to the Eternal,

which they shall celebrate by holy convocations in their seasons (till Messiah come).

5. In the fourteenth day of the first month, in the twilight, is the Eternal's typical passover. 6. And on the fiftenth day of it begins the feast of unleaved bread to the Eternal for seven days, in which ye shall eat no leaven. 7. On the first day ye shall have a solemn assembly (for divine worship), no servile work shall be done in it; 8. And also on the seventh. On each of these seven days shall ye of fer a fire-offering to the Eternal.

9. The Eternal said also to Moses, 10. Say to the Israelites, When ye come to the land which I give you, ye shall bring a sheaf of the first reaped fruits of your harvest to the priest. 11. And he shall wave it before the Eternal on the morrow after the Passover Sabbath, to be accepted for you. 12. And on the same day ye shall offer a male lamb of a year old, without blemish, for a burnt-offering to the Eternal. 13. And a meat-offering shall ac company it, two tenths of an ephath of fine flour mingled with oil, a fire-offering to the Eternal, for a sweet savour; and its drink-offering the fourth part of a hin of wine. 14. It shall be a perpetual statute to your generations in all your dwellings, that ye shall eat neither bread nor toasted corn, of full ears of your harvest, till you have brought an offering of them to your God.

15. Ye shall count seven Sabbaths complete from the morrow after the Passover Sabbath, the day that ye brought the wave-offering sheaf. 16. And ye shall offer a new meat-offering to the Eternal on the morrow after the seventh Sabbath, being the fiftieth day (when the law was given at Sinai). 17. Ye shall bring from your habitations two wave loaves of two tenths of an ephath of fine flour baked without leaven, being the first fruits to the Eternal. 18. And ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs of a year old, without blemish, and one bullock, and

two rams, for a burnt-offering to the Eternal, with their meat-offering and drink-offering, a sweet sa. voured fire-offering to the Eternal.

19. Then shall ye sacrifice one kid for a sin-offering, and two lambs of a year old, for thank-offerings. 20. And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the first fruits for a wave-offering before the Eternal, with the two lambs; they shall be sacred to the Eternal for the priests. 21. And ye shall cele brate that day, by a lasting statute in your abodes, and generations, for a holy convocation, and do no servile work in it. 22. And in the harvest ye shall not clear the corners of yours fields, nor gather the gleanings of your harvest; but leave these for the poor and the stranger, saith the Eternal, your God.

23. The Eternal said also to Moses, 24. Say to the Israelites, The first day of the seventh month (Gen. i. 11.) shall ye observe as a Sabbath, for a holy convocation, intimated by the blowing of trumpets. 25. Ye shall offer a fire-offering to the Eternal, and do no servile work in it.

26. The Eternal said again to Moses, 27. The tenth day of the seventh month shall be a day of atonement; there shall be a holy convocation, ye shall afflict your souls for your sins, and offer a fire-offering to the Eternal. 28. And in that day of atonement for you, before the Eternal your God, ye shall do no work; 29. Whoever shall not mourn for his sins (of the past year), on that day, shall be cut off; 30. And whoever doeth any work on that day will destroy from among his people.

31. This shall be a perpetual statute to your generations in all your dwellings. 32. It shall be to you a solemn Sabbath, in which ye shall afflict your souls, from the evening of the ninth day of the month till that of the tenth, from evening to evening shall ye keep your Sabbaths.

33. The Eternal said also to Moses, 34. Say to the Israelites, The fifteenth day of the seventh month,

shall begin the feast of tabernacles seven days to the Eternal. 35. On the first day there shall be an holy convocation; in it ye shall do no servile work. 36. On each of the seven days ye shall offer fireofferings to the Eternal, and also on the eighth day, which is a solemn assembly, no servile work shall be done in it.

37. These are the stated festivals of the Eternal, which ye shall solemnize by holy convocations, to offer fire offerings to him, burnt-offerings, and their meat-offerings, and drink-offerings, each one on its day; 38. Besides the weekly Sabbaths of the Eternal, and your gifts, and all your vows, and free-will offerings, which ye offer to the Eternal.

39. On the fifteenth day of the same month, when ye have gathered in the last fruits, ye shall keep a festival seven days to the Eternal; the first day shall be a holy rest, and also the eighth.

40. On the first ye shall take shoots of luxuriant trees, of trees comely with their leaves, even of palms, myrtles, and willows, for binding (to make tents to dwell in), to rejoice before the Eternal your God seven days as a festival. 41. It shall be a perpetual statute in all your generations to celebrate it in the seventh month. 42. All that are born Israelites shall dwell in booths seven days, 43. For a memorial to your posterity that I made you dwell in booths (forty years in the wilderness), when I brought you out of Egypt. 44. These festivals of the Eternal Moses declared to the Israelites.
