Which he made of Shittim wood, and overlaid them with brass; 7. And put them along its sides into the rings to carry it: he made the altar hollow, with boards for holding the offering.

8. He made also a brazen washing vessel, with its brazen cover, under the inspection of the women, who assembled at the tabernacle door.

9. And he made the court about the tabernacle. The hangings of the south and north sides were à 'hundred cubits each side of fine twisted linen. 10. Their pillars and sockets of brass for each side twenty; the hooks of the pillars, and their fillets, were of silver.

CHAP. XXXIX.

THE CLOTHES OF THE SACRED SERVICE.

THE sacred garments for Aaron to minister in holy things, as the Eternal commanded Moses, were made of blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine twisted linen. 2. He made the ephod of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine twisted linen. 3. They beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires to work it artfully in the blue, the purple, and scarlet, and fine duplicated linen, with skilful work.

4. They made the shoulder pieces for it to couple it together, and it was joined by its two edges, 5. And the embroidered girdle of the ephod was of the same materials, and the same colours, as the Eternal commanded Moses.

6. And they inclosed the onyx stones in gold, having the names of the twelve tribes engraven by art, like signets; 7. And he put them in the shoulders of the ephod for a memorial of Israel's tribes, as the Eternal commanded Moses.

8. And he made the breast-plate of like materials, with artificial work like that of the ephod; 9. It was four-square, a span long and a span broad, being doubled; 10. And they set in it four rows of stones;

the first contained a ruby, a topaz, and a carbuncle; 11. And the second an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond; 12. And the third a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst; 13. And the fourth a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper: they were enclosed in golden sockets, 14. And had the names of the twelve tribes engraven in them, the name of a tribe engraven in each, like the engraving of a signet. 15. And they made to the breast-plate chains at the ends, to tie it to the ephod; they were twisted work of pure gold; 16. And two clasps of gold, and two gold rings, and put these in the two upper ends of the breast-plate; 17. And put the two twisted chains of gold in the rings in the two ends of the breastplate; 18. And these two ends of the wreathen chains were fixt to the two clasps, and these were fixt to the opposite ends of the ephod's shoulders. 19. They made also two rings of gold, and put them on the nether ends of the breast-plate, at the inner edge of its borders, on the inside joining of the ephod. 20. And they made two other golden rings, and put them on its two ends, below and before, opposite the other coupling, above the ephod's cu rious girdle. 21. And they bound the breast-plate by its rings to those of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it might be fixed on the ephod's curious girdle, and not be loosed from it, as the Eternal commanded Moses. 22. And he made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue; 23. And the hole of the robe through which the head was put, in putting it on, was in the midst of its neck, as the collar of a coat of mail, with a binding about it, that it might not rent. 24. And they made upon the hems of the robe pomegranates of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twisted linen: 25. And they made bells of pure gold, and put one between each two pomegranates on the hem of the robe all around, 26. To minister in, as the Eternal com manded Moses,
