10. DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION Alteration of existing hangar area, Bldg 721 to provide Avionics Shop space, Parachute and Dinghy Shop, General Purpose Shops, Maintenance Control, Mobility Processing and necessary utilities.

AIR CONDITIONING: 10 TONS

11. Requirement: 45,000 SF

Adequate: -0- Substandard: 45,000 SF PROJECT: Alteration of an existing hangar to house the Avionics Shop, Parachute and Dinghy Shop, Maintenance Control and Mobility Processing in support of the 118th Tactical Airlift Wing.

REQUIREMENT: Maintenance of sophisticated turbo-prop aircraft requires adequate shop space with special mechanical, electrical and environmental systems available. Repair and replacement of avionics equipment, repair and servicing of parachutes and dinghy's, and specialty shops, such as pneudraulics, rubber and sheet metal are essential to aircraft maintenance activities. Maintenance control is necessary to properly manage the aircraft maintenance function. Mobility Processing is essential to the mobility mission of the wing.

CURRENT SITUATION: The 118 TAW has just received its eight additional C-130 aircraft. The Avionics and General Purpose Shops are current ly located in Bldg 721 in 8,848 SF of which is space deficient by 11,563 SF. The Parachute and Dinghy function, also in Bldg 721, is in 3265 SF, a deficiency of 3935 SF. Maintenance Control is almost 3500 SF. Mobility Processing now is performed in any available area or on the apron IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: Failure to approve this project will result in continued operations in overcrowded and unsafe facilities coupled with ineffective aircraft maintenance scheduling and mobility processing. These deficiencies could affect personnel recruiting and retention.
