The following words, which describe divine Revelation either in whole or in part, deserve careful notice in the reading of the Bible.

1. Law. The root of the word in Hebrew signifies, to direct, guide, teach, make straight, even, to point forward.

2. Statutes. The root of the word in Hebrew signifies, to mark, trace out, describe, ordain.

3. Precepts. The root signifies to take notice or care of a

thing; to attend, have respect to, to appoint, to visit.

4. Commandments. The root, &c., to command, order, or

dain.

5. Testimonies. The root, &c., to bear witness.

6. Judgments. The root, &c., to judge, determine, regulate, order, discern.

7. Truth.

8. Word. The root, &c., to discourse, utter one's sentiments, speak consecutively and intelligibly.

9. Way. The root, &c., to proceed, go on, walk, tread. 10. Righteousness. The root signifies to do justice, to give

full weight: understand by the word, that which teaches a man to give to God, to man, and to himself, what is due.

The word Judgment is used in various senses:

It may denote the sentence or decision of a judge. 1
