AN ACT to define the boundaries of certain counties therein named, and for other purposes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Mississippi, That the territory within the following of counties. limits, to wit: Beginning at the point where the line between townships six and seven intersects the eastern boundary line of the state, and running with the said boundary line to the Tennessee river; thence down the said mingo. river to the point where the northern boundary line of the state intersects the same; thence with the said northern boundary line, to the line between ranges five and six east of the basis meridian; thence south with the said range line, to the line between townships six and seven; thence east with the said township line to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Tishamingo.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the territory Itawamba. within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point where the line between townships six and seven intersecting the eastern boundary line of the state, and running thence with the said boundary line, to a point one mile north of its intersection with the line between townships eleven and twelve; thence due west to the line between ranges five and six east; thence north with the said range Jine, to the line between townships six and seven, and thence east with the said township line, to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Itawamba.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the territory Tippah.

within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point where the line between townships six and seven intersects the basis meridian, to the northern boundary line of the state, thence east with the said boundary line, to the line between ranges five and six east, thence south with the said range line, to the line between townships six and seven; and thence west with the said township line to the beginning; shall form a new county, and be called the county of Tippah.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That the territory within the townships seven, eight, nine, ten, and eleven, of ranges one, two, three, four, and five, east of the basis meridian, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Pontotoc.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That the territory Chickasaw. within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point

where the line between ranges five and six east, intersects the northern boundary of Oktibbeeha county, and running thence with the said northern boundary, to the eastern boundary of Choctaw county; thence along the eastern and northern boundaries of Choctaw county, to the eastern boundary of Yallabusha county, thence north with the said eastern boundary of Yallabusha county, to the point where the line between townships eleven and twelve intersects the same; thence east with the said township line, to the line between ranges five and six, and thence south with the said range line, to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Chickasaw.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That the territory Marshall. within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point where the line of the basis meridian intersects the northern boundary line of the state, and running thence south with the said basis meridian line, to the centre of township six; thence west through the centre of township six, according to the sectional lines, to the centre of range five west; thence north through the centre of range five west, according to the sectional lines, to the northern boundary line of the state, and thence east with the said boundary line, to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Marshall.

SEC. 7, And be it further enacted, That the territory Lafayette. within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point where the line between townships eleven and twelve intersects the basis meridian, and running thence north with the line of basis meridian, to the centre of township six ; thence west, through the centre of township six, according to the sectional lines, to the centre of range five west; thence south through the centre of range five west, according to the sectional lines, to the northern boundary line of

Yallabusha county, thence along the northern and eastern boundary lines of Yallabusha county, to the point where the line between townships eleven and twelve intersects the eastern boundary line of Yallabusha county, and thence east with the said township line to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Lafayette.

SEC. 8. And be it further enacted, That the territory within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point De Soto. where the northern boundary line of the state intersects the Mississippi river, and running thence down the said river, to the point where the line between townships two and three intersects the same; thence with the said township line, to the line between ranges nine and ten west, thence south with the said range line to the centre of township six, thence east through the centre of township six, according to the sectional lines, to the centre of range five west; thence north through the centre of range five west, according to the sectional lines, to the northern boundary line of the state; thence west with the said boundary line, to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of De Soto.

SEC. 9. And be it further enacted, That the territory within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point Ponola. where the line between ranges nine and ten strikes the centre of section six, and running thence south with the said range line, and from its termination in a direct line to the northern boundary of Tallahatchee county, and thence along the northern boundary of Tallahatchee and Yallabusha counties, to the centre of range five west; thence north through the centre of range five west, according to the sectional lines, to the centre of township six; thence west through the centre of township six, according to the sectional lines, to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Ponola.

SEC. 10. And be it further enacted, That the territory within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the north- Tunica. western corner of Tallahatchee county and running thence due north to the dividing line between the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes of Indians; thence with the said dividing line to the Mississippi river; thence up the said river, to

Monroe.

the point where the line between townships two and three intersects the same; thence with the said township line, to the line between ranges nine and ten west; thence south with the said range line, and from its termination in a direct line to the northern boundary of Tallahatchee county, and thence west with said northern boundary, to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Tunica.

SEC. 11. And be it further enacted, That the boundaries of the county of Monroe shall hereafter be as follows, to wit: beginning at the point one mile due north of the point where the line between townships eleven and twelve intersects the eastern boundary line of the state, and running thence due west to the line between ranges five and six east; thence south with the said range line, to the northern boundary of Oktibbeeha county, thence due east to the mouth of the Buttehatchie river; thence according to the present boundaries between the said county of Monroe, and the county of Lowndes, to the eastern boundary line of the state, and thence along the said eastern boundary line to the beginning; and the territory included within the said limits, shall, from and after the passage of this act, constitute the county of Monroe.

SEC. 12. And be it further enacted, That the territory Coahoma. within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point where the line between townships twenty-four and twenty-five of the surveys of the late Choctaw cession intersects the Mississippi river, and running thence up the said river to the point where the dividing line between the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes of Indians intersects the same; thence with the said dividing line to the point where the line between ranges two and three of the survey of the said Choctaw cession intersects the same; thence with said range line, to the line between townships twenty-four and twenty-five as aforesaid, and thence with the said township line to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Coahoma.

SEC. 13. And be it further enacted, That the territory within the following limits, to wit: beginning at the point where the line between townships twenty-four and twenty

five intersects the line between ranges two and three west, and running thence with the said range line, to the point where the same intersects the line between townships twenty-one and twenty-two; thence east with the said township lines to the Tallahatchee river, thence down the Tallahatchee and Yazoo rivers, to the point where the old Choctaw boundary line intersects the Yazoo river; thence with the said boundary line to the point where the line between townships nineteen and twenty leaves the same; thence west with the said township line to the Mississippi river; thence up the Mississippi river, to the point where the line between townships twenty-four and twenty-five intersects the same, and thence with the said township line to the beginning, shall form a new county, and be called the county of Bolivar.

SEC. 14. And be it further enacted, That this act shall Act to take be in force and take effect from and after the first day of March next.

AN ACT to amend an act, entitled 'an Act, to authorize the trustees of the school lands in each township in this state, to lease the sixteenth sections within the same for ninety-nine years and for other purposes,' approved February 21st, 1833, and for other purposes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Mississippi, That the board of trustees of school lands Mode of electing now in office, or who shall hereafter be elected as trustees trustees in thereof, may remain and continue in such office, for the case any township term of two years, from the time of their election, or until neglect to their successors are duly qualified to act, and at the expira- board. tion of the terms of said trustees, or whenever any township shall neglect, or refuse to elect and organize a board of trustees therein, or whenever any vacancy may occur in said board, the president or any two members thereof, or any three heads of families in the township may apply to the president of the board of police of the proper county, and on their certificate in writing of such vacancy, the said president of such board of police shall issue an order, to
