"It's worth looking into." Everybody agrees that the practice of medicine is an art. But that a medical education is plain hard work and costly. The Navy knows this too. So, some 25 years ago it devised a comprehensive plan that, hopefully, would attract young men and women into careers of military medicine, while at the same time making it easier for them to get the best possible medical education. With time and refinements the Navy Medical Student Program has proven to be a real winner. So much so that there are usually more applicants than there are openings. Affiliation with the Program offers financial assistance through clinical and research clerkships, and full-time pay for periods of active duty while you continue your education - free from worry about the draft.
