Many of these aspirations have been breathed by thousands whose
faith is now fruition. May other thousands find them instrumental
in keeping them in conscious nearness to their God and Father, and
so strengthen them to bear the burdens, and faithfully perform the
work of life.

Strong Son of God, immortal Love, Whom we, that have not seen thy face, By faith, and faith alone, embrace, Believing where we cannot prove;

Thou seemest human and divine,

The highest, holiest manhood thou; Our wills are ours, we know not how; Our wills are ours, to make them thine.

He prayeth best who loveth best
All things, both great and small;
For the dear God who loveth us

He made and loveth all.

SCRIPTURE LESSON.

[N the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the

face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.-Gen. i: 1-3, 31. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.-John i: 1-5, 9. He that believeth not God hath made him a liar, because he believeth not the record that God gave of his son. And this is the record, that God has given us eternal life; and this life is in his son.-I. John v: 10, 11.

PRAYER.

UR Father in heaven, we come unto Thee that we may receive Thy blessing on the threshold of this New Year. Thou knowest the end from the beginning. Thou seest all things, while we know not what a day may bring We realize that we have left many things undone that we ought to have done. We pray Thee to forgive us for every neglected duty, and through the present year may we be more mindful of our obligations to Thee, and may we perform faithfully all the duties of life. Aid us to pass safely through all that may gather around us; and when our years on earth are ended, bring us to Thyself, to praise Thee forever and ever. Amen.

E was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of men, but of God. And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.-John i: 10-14. The exceeding greatness of his power to us ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.-Eph. i: 19-23.

PRAYER.

HOU, Father, art nigh to those who call on Thee in truth. Thou wilt hear the prayer of those who love Thee, and save them. We bow before Thee; though we see Thee not, yet we are taught by Thy word and works that Thou art, and that Thou art not far from any one of us. And now that Thy name is on our lips, write Thy laws upon our hearts, that we may have years of life and peace on earth. And when these years shall end, take us to dwell with Thee in Heaven. We ask it as disciples of Christ. Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSON.

HOUGH I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.-I. Cor. xiii: 1-3, 7.

PRAYER.

UR Father, on whom all creatures depend, and whose hand is ever open for the supply of our wants, we come to Thee in prayer. Accept our offerings, and enable us with reverence to worship Thee, and seek Thy blessing. Thou art infinite in wisdom, goodness and power, and worthy the praise of all hearts. To Thy guidance we submit our ways, and to Thy disposal our interests, for time and eternity. We look to Thee for safety amidst unforeseen exposures; for subsistence; for raiment; for health; for fruitful seasons, and for all the supports and comforts of life. Every day would we pray to Thee as disciples of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
