Mr. TEAGUE of Texas introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Veterans' Affairs

A BILL

To amend title 38 of the United States Code to provide that amounts inherited from bank accounts jointly or separately owned shall not count as income for death or disability pension or for dependency and indemnity compensation.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 3 That (a) section 503 of title 38, United States Code, is

4 amended by adding the following to the end thereof:

"(14) amounts inherited by the surviving spouse

5

from bank accounts jointly or separately owned by the

7

veteran and his spouse.".

(b) Subsection (g) (1) of section 415 of title 38,

1 United States Code, is amended by adding the following to

2 the end thereof:

(M) amounts inherited by the surviving spouse

from bank accounts jointly or separately owned by the dependent parents of the veteran.".

(c) This Act shall take effect on the first day of the

7 second calendar month in which enacted.

2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, Section 506 (a) (2) of title 38, United States Code, is

4 amended by striking out the comma after "child" and insert5 ing in lieu thereof "or a person who has attained seventy

6 years of age and has been paid pension thereunder for two 7 calendar years."

To amend title 38, United States Code, to repeal the restrictions on dependency and indemnity compensation payments in cases involving in-service waiver of Government life insurance premiums.

1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 3 That section 417 of title 38, United States Code, be amended 4 to read as follows:

5" 417. Restrictions on payments under this chapter

"No person eligible for dependency and indemnity com7 pensation by reason of any death occurring after Decem8 ber 31, 1956, shall be eligible by reason of such death for

9 any payments under (1) provisions of law administered by
