V.

From where the rifing day afcends, to where it sets in night,

He compaffes the floods with bounds, and checks their threat'ning might.

VI.

The pillars that fupport the sky tremble at his rebuke;

Through all its caverns quakes the earth, as tho' its centre shook.

VII.

He brings the waters from their beds,
altho' no tempeft blows;
And fmites the kingdom of the proud
without the hand of foes.

VIII.

With bright inhabitants above
he fills the heav'nly land;
And all the crooked ferpent's breed
dismay'd before him stand.

IX.

Few of his works can we furvey; thefe few our fkill tranfcend; But the full thunder of his power what heart can comprehend?

X.

PROV. i. 20.-31..

I.

N ftreets, and op'nings of the gates, where pours the bufy crowd,

Thus heav'nly Wisdom lifts her voice, and cries to men aloud:

II.

How long, ye fcorners of the truth, fcornful will ye remain?! How long fhall fools their folly love, and hear my words in vain?

III.

O turn, at last, at my reproof!
and in that happy hour,
His blefs'd effufions on your heart
my Spirit down fhall pour.

IV.

But fince fo long with earnest voice to you in vain I call,

Since all my counfels and reproofs thus ineffectual fall ;

V.

The time will come, when, hnmbled low, in forrow's evil day,

Your voice by anguish shall be taught, but taught too late, to pray.

VI.

When, like the whirlwind, o'er the deep comes Defolation's blast, Pray'rs then extorted fhall be vain, the hour of mercy past.

VII.

The choice you made has fix'd your doom; for this is Heaven's decree,

That with the fruits of what he fow'd the finner fill'd fhall be.

Happy is the man who hears
Inftruction's warning voice,

II.

For fhe has treasures greater far than east or weft unfold; And her rewards more precious are than all their stores of gold.

III.

In her right hand fhe holds to view a length of happy days; Riches, with fplendid honours join'd, are what her left difplays.

IV.

She guides the young with innocence in pleafure's paths to tread; A crown of glory the bestows upon the hoary head.

V.

According as her labours rife,

fo her rewards increase; Her ways are ways of pleafantnefs, and all her paths are peace.

PROV. VÍ. 6.—12.

.I.

E indolent and flothful! rife,

YE

View the ant's labours and be wife. She has no guide to point her way, No ruler chiding her delay;

II.

Yet fee with what inceffant cares
She for the winter's ftorm prepares;
In fummer fhe provides her meat,
And harveft finds her ftore complete.

III.

But when will flothful man arife?
How long shall sleep feal up his eyes?
Sloth more indulgence ftill demands;
Sloth fhuts the eyes and folds the hands.

IV.

But mark the end; want fhall affail, When all your strength and vigour fail Want, like an armed man, fhall rush The hoary head of age to crufh.
