Requirement: Each Department and agency for which appropriations are made shall take immediate action: to improve the collection of overdue debts owed to the United States within the jurisdiction of that department or agency, to bill interest on delinquent debts as required by the Federal Claims Collection Standards, and to reduce amounts of such debts written off as uncollectible. The Inspector General shall make reports on a semi-annual basis to the Secretary of Health and Human Services and to appropriate committees and subcommittees of the Congress identifying any significant problems, abuses, or deficiencies relating to the administration of programs and operations of the Department. Abstract: A summary is provided of total amounts due the Department as well as amounts overdue and amounts written off as uncollectible during the period. The report will include a summary of actions taken to improve debt collection.

Requirement: Not later than May 31 and November 30 of each year, the Inspector General shall submit semiannual reports to the Secretary of Health and Human Services and to the Congress summarizing the activities of the Office during the preceding six-month periods ending March 31 and September 30. Requirement: In April of each year, each government authority that requests access to financial records of any customer from a financial institution shall send to the appropriate committees of Congress a report describing requests made during the preceding calendar year. Abstract: Section 1121(b) of the Right to Financial Privacy Act of 1978 requires each government authority that requests access to financial records of any customer from a financial institution pursuant to certain provisions of the Act, to make a report to Congress during April of each year. This report must include the number of requests for records made pursuant to the appropriate sections of the Act during the previous calendar year, and it should also include any other related information deemed relevant or useful by the government. The report provides the access statistics and reimbursement cost figures for the three concerned organizations in the Department of Health and Human Services: Social Security Administration, Health Care Financing Administration, and Office of Inspector General. The Act places controls on federal agencies' access to the records of financial institutions customers. The component report using two sections of the Act for access, namely, Section 1104 (access with customer authorization), Section 1105 (the use of administrative subpoena and summons). Abstract: This report describes the activities of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. It provides information on technical services, manpower development efforts, and research to develop criteria for toxic substances and harmful physical agents for recommendation of standards to the Secretary of Labor. It also describes the Institute's industry-wide studies, which investigate the effects of chronic or low-level exposure to industrial materials, processes, and stresses on the potential for illness, disease, or loss of functional capacity in aging adults. In addition, it provides information on state plans, voluntary compliance, legal developments, and legislative activities, as well as numerous statistical tables.

Requirement: The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall submit to the President for transmittal to the Congress an annual report on the effectiveness of all federal and other public and private activities in controlling diseases and conditions of national significance which are amenable to reduction; the extent of the problems presented by such diseases; and the effectiveness of the activities assisted by grants and contracts pursuant to the National Consumer Health Information and Health Promotion Act of 1976. The report shall also set forth a plan for the control of such diseases during the coming year.
