Requirement: Not later than twelve months after enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall include the results of the investigations in a report to Congress. The Secretary shall thereafter provide to Congress each year a description of the efforts made to make available the protein byproduct resulting from production of fuel alcohol from agricultural commodities. Abstract: Digestibilities of blended foods containing corn distillers' grains or corn protein concentrate from fermentation processes were determined in rat feeding studies. The addition of 10 percent distillers' grains to a corn-soy-milk blend decreased the digestibility of solids about 2 percent and protein by about 4 percent. The presence of 5 percent or more corn distillers' grain in corn-soy-milk blended foods significantly reduced its flavor acceptability as determined by a trained 10-member taste panel. Analysis of by-products of wheat grain and wheat flour fermentation established that these products were high in protein. Use of wheat distillers' solubles in food is not likely due to its poor flavor. Essential amino acid compositions of distillers' grains from soft wheat are better than that from hard wheat, and both are better than that of corn.
