Abstract: The report gives a detailed description of the agency's efforts to promote and strengthen the American Merchant Marine, summarizes its significant official actions for the fiscal year, and provides statistics and analysis on the current state of the U.S. maritime industry. It also discusses the financial assistance programs administered by the Maritime Administration for shipbuilders and ship operators; cost-shared research and development projects for advanced technology, competitiveness, and productivity of the maritime industry; promotional programs which are used to generate shipper support for U.S.-flag vessels; port promotion projects; domestic shipping; and minority business enterprise in the maritime industry.
