HISTORICAL NOTE

This is a proviso from section 10 of the Act of July 9, 1918, entitled "An Act Making appropriations for the support of the Army for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and nineteen", which section amended section 125 of the National Defense Act of June 3, 1916, c. 134, s. 125, 39 Stat. 216. As originally enacted this proviso read-"And provided further, That officers and members of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers may, regardless of the preceding provisions of said Act, wear such uniforms as the Secretary of War may authorize". The Act of June 4, 1920, cited provided in part that the words "or the Secretary of the Navy" shall be inserted immediately after the words "the Secretary of War" wherever those words appear in section 125 of the Act approved June 3, 1916. The Act of July 3, 1930, c. 863, 46 Stat. 1016, cited is an Act entitled "An Act To authorize the President to consolidate and coordinate governmental activities affecting war veterans", which authorized the President to consolidate the Bureau of Pensions, the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, and the United States Veterans' Bureau into an establishment to be known as the Veterans' Administration.
