EULOGY ON ALGEBRA:

A

TREATISE on this fubject might be confidered almost fuperfluous, were not the excellence of Algebra in itself as a science, and its extenfive utility in those to which it may be applied, now pretty generally known: Nor is it much more neceffary to apologize for the prefent Publication from the number already extant on the fame subject. The improvement of knowledge is gradual, and arifes from repeated accumulations: the most trivial instruments which may contribute to fo defirable an end, ought not to be unemployed; and whoever thinks his obfervations on any science capable of extending its bounds, or of removing thofe obftacles, which may have retarded the progrefs of learners in tracks already
