Section 542 of title 38, United States Code, 6 is amended 7 8 9 10 11 12 (1) by striking out "$57" and "$24" in subsection (a) and inserting in lieu thereof "$61" and "$26", respectively; and (2) by striking out "$2,890" in subsection (c) and inserting in lieu thereof "$3,080". SEC. 104. Section 544 of title 38, United States Code, 13 is amended by striking out "$74” and inserting in lieu there14 of "$79". 15 SEC. 105. Section 4 of Public Law 90-275 (82 Stat. 16 68) is amended to read as follows: 17 "SEC. 4. The income limitations governing payment 18 of pension under the first sentence of section 9 (b) of the 19 Veterans' Pension Act of 1959 hereafter shall be $3,300 20 and $4,760 instead of $3,100 and $4,460 respectively.". 21 TITLE II-DEPENDENCY AND INDEMNITY COM PENSATION FOR PARENTS SEC, 201. Section 415 of title 38, United States Code, 24 is amended 1 2 5 (1) by amending the table in subsection (b) (1) 3 (2) by striking out "$3,540" in subsection (b) (3) and inserting in lieu thereof "$3,775”; 4 5 6 to read as follows: (3) by amending the table in subsection (c) (1) (4) by striking out "$3,540" in subsection (c) (3) and inserting in lieu thereof "$3,775"; (5) by amending the table in subsection (d) (1) to read as follows: 1 2 3 4 5 (6) by striking out "$4,760" in subsection (d) (3) and inserting in lieu thereof "$5,080"; and (7) by striking out "$74" in subsection (h) and inserting in lieu thereof "$79". SEC. 202. Section 541 of title 38, United States Code, is 6 amended by adding at the end thereof the following para7 graph: 8 "(g) The monthly rate of pension payable to any sur9 viving spouse under any of subsection (b), (c), or (d) of 10 this section, including the increase, if any, payable under sec11 tion 544 of this title, shall be increased by 25 per centum 12 beginning on the first day of the month in which the sur13 viving spousė attains age seventy-eight.". 7 1 TITLE III-MISCELLANEOUS AND EFFECTIVE 2 DATE PROVISIONS 3 SEC. 301. INTRODUCTION On May 17 and 18, the Subcommittee on Compensation, Pension, and Insurance held hearings on H.R. 1863 which dealt with cost-ofliving increases in the rates of non-service-connected disability pensions for eligible veterans widows, and children as well as increases in the monthly benefit rates of dependency and indemnity compensation paid to needy parents of veterans who have died of serviceconnected causes. The subcommittee also considered H.R. 1865 which provided a 25 percent additional pension to widows aged 78 and older presently available to veterans aged 78 and older. The subcommittee heard testimony from the Veterans Administration, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, the AMVETS, the Veterans of World War I of the U.S.A., the Paralyzed Veterans of America and Members of Congress. On May 24, the subcommittee recommended to the full Committee a clean bill. On June 7, the full Committee, by unanimous voice vote, ordered the bill, H.R. 7345, reported! |
