1 The size extras for the beam or channel sections will also apply in addition to the splitting extras.

Special cutting extra for tees or angles produced by splitting beams or channels, lengths 20' to 8', inclusive___

.05

Lengths under 8' and over 40' take length extras for structural shapes. Lengths over 60' must be submitted as inquiry since all sections cannot be split when this length is exceeded.

Beam and Channel Sections with web thicknesses up to 5%" inclusive will be split by Rotary Shear unless otherwise specified by customer; those having web thicknesses over %' must be split by Flame Cutting. If the mill for production reasons elects to split by Flame Cutting sections with web thicknesses up to " thick inclusive, the extra shown for "Splitting By Rotary Shear" will apply. When customer specifies splitting by Flame Cutting, the extra as shown for "Splitting by Flame Cutting" will apply regardless of the web thickness involved. The extras for splitting beams or channels, are based on a minimum of 30' total length of each size and weight of beam or channel section. Prices will be quoted on miscellaneous lots totaling less than 30', upon receipt of details. A minimum charge for splitting any one section or accumulated length of one section, $6.00. All tees processed from beams or angles processed from channels will be invoiced at the calculated theoretical weight of the full beam or channel from which they are obtained, regardless of whether one or two tees or angles are furnished from a single beam or channel. Extras are for tees or angles with "As Split" edge. If necessary to grind edges to remove shear fin (after rotary shearing), additional charge of 21⁄2 cents per linear foot of tee will apply over the above listed splitting extra.

Where customer orders Equal or Unequal Tees or Angles which do not take up the full depth of the Beam or Channel leaving a residual wastage out of the web, it is necessary for the mill to make two lines of cuts per section instead of one. For each line of cut the extras shown above will apply, and will be applied against the weight of the full section from which they are cut. Such Equal or Unequal Tees or Angles cannot always be handled by rotary shear cutting and if splitting by Flame Cutting is necessary, the appropriate extra for each line of cut will apply. Any residual wastage will be retained at the mill and no allowance will be made for its value.

Over 90 to 100, inclusive
Over 100_.

. 40, plus . 05 for every additional 5' or fraction thereof. Applicable only to those sizes that can be furnished in lengths over 100'.

*Ordered lengths specifying a minimum length leeway of 5' and a maximum length (including such leeway) between 40′ and 65', incl., will be considered base for length, and the extra will not be assessed.

Length extras applying to lengths under 8' will be based on either cents per pound or cents per piece, whichever is greater in amount, as per following table:

[blocks in formation]

Minimum extra per piece for angles.

Minimum extra per piece for structural shapes other than angles---.

20¢ per lb. 10¢ per lb.

5.00 cents per piece

10. 00 cents per piece

The above cutting extras, for lengths under 8' are set up to cover a normal amount of such cutting on any one order. They do not apply on orders comprising an excessive amount of short-length cutting. Such orders are subject to special arrangement and pricing, but in no case shall the extra be less than shown in this table.

ITEM QUANTITY EXTRAS

Quantity extras are determined by the total theoretical weight of the individual sections ordered of one grade or analysis, released for shipment to one destination at one time:

Under 4,000 lb. to 2,000 lb., incl---.
Under 2,000 lb. to 1,000 lb., incl_-
Under 1,000 lb------

.40

.75

The extra applies whether or not the item is included in shipment of a carload or less than carload lot.

The term "individual section" means all weights of a structural shape of the same section number and of the same nominal dimensions, e. g., A60, 6" x 6" angle in one or more of its various thicknesses; or 112, 12" standard beam in weights 31.8 and 35 lb. per foot; but 112a, 12" in weights 40.8 and 50 lb. would be another section.

LOADING EXTRAS

It is standard mill practice to load in lifts of five net tons or over. When lifts of less than five net tons are specified or required the following extras apply:

[blocks in formation]

Where the purchaser specifies lifts shall be secured with rods, bands, or wire, extra in addition to loading extra above will be:

One ton lifts..

Over one ton lifts--

SPECIAL CUTTING EXTRAS

.10

.05

Standard tolerances for cutting, whether done hot or cold, at mill's option, are published and established.

1. Cutting Wide Flange Sections, Channels and Standard Beams, wherever length tolerances are specified either with tolerance

"plus only" or "minus only".

2. Cold sawing, when specified (Standard tolerance).

.10

.10

Wherever cutting tolerances are specified at less than standard tolerances, the cutting must be done cold and subject, nevertheless, to published out-of-square cutting tolerances, the following extras will apply:

3. Cutting Standard Mill Sections, Light Beams and Joint Sections, 10" in depth and under, 4'' H-Beams, Angles 6 x 6'' or 7 x 4'' and under, Tees 5 x 3" and under, Zees 6'' and under, in lengths 20 feet and under, within plus or minus '' measured on center line of sections (except angles which are measured at the apex)__

4. Cutting above sections (3) not longer than 40 feet within plus or minus 4" measured on center line of section (except angles which are measured at the apex).

.20 MILLING. When length tolerance closer than above or out-of-square tolerances less than standard are required for any structural section, milling will be necessary. The extra for lengths 10 feet and over will be .50 cents per lb., but in no case more than the maximum or less than the minimum amount per piece shown below for cutting one and two ends, respectively:

[blocks in formation]

Extras for milling structural sections less than 10 feet in length will be quoted on application, but in no case will be less than the extra for milling sections 10 feet or over in length.

EXTRA FOR CAMBERING BEAMS

Cambering of Wide Flange and Standard Beam Sections 21" and over in depth that can be done at the mill .25 cents per lb., with a minimum charge of $6.00 per piece.

The maximum camber that can be undertaken is indicated in the table below. All cambering is subject to a tolerance of plus 1⁄2" to minus nothing at midlength of beam for lengths 50' or less, and for lengths over 50', %" is to be added to the over tolerance for each additional 10' or fraction thereof.

The maximum lengths that can be cambered depend on the length that can be rolled of a given section, to a maximum 100 feet.

The maximum camber that can be furnished and the minimum lengths for given cambers are shown in the following table:

[merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][subsumed][ocr errors][merged small][merged small][ocr errors][ocr errors][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][ocr errors][merged small][merged small][subsumed][ocr errors][subsumed][ocr errors][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small]

Camber will approximate a simple regular curve from end to end (approximately) of beam or between any two points on the beam as specified. Reverse or other compound curves will not be undertaken. Camber should be specified by the ordinate at mid-length of the portion specified to be curved; ordinates at other points shall not be specified.

Camber is secured by gagging beams cold. Extremely small cambers may not be permanent and the beam may lose camber due to the release of stresses put into the beam during the camber operation. The following table indicates the minimum camber likely to remain permanent:

Camber to ordinates less than shown below as minimum must be submitted as inquiry, since such cambers may be furnished, but no guarantee can be given with respect to their permanency. Extras for cambers less than minimum will be quoted on application, but will be not less than minimum price shown above.

Where the purchaser specifies the material shall be protected from the weather when shipped in open car, there shall be a charge of .05 cents per pound on the weight of material shipped, but in no case less than $15.00 per car. Where the purchaser specifies material to be shipped in box cars, these same charges are applicable.

In the rolling and finishing of Wide Flange Sections and Standard Structural Shapes (Beams, Channels, Angles, etc.) the presence of grease or oil on the finished product is unavoidable. The removal of grease or oil shall be the function of the purchaser and not of the mill producing the material. No claims will be allowed the purchaser for the expense of removing grease or oil.
