INDEX

This index is a guide chiefly to the sub-
ject matter of the committee papers and of the
petitions referred to committees, as listed
in the inventory. It also is a guide to rec-
ords of specific committees or specific types
of records. References are to page numbers
of the inventory or in some cases to Con-
gresses. The index does not cover bills, re-
ports, or Congressional documents individually,
which are usually printed in the regular
course of legislative business and are indi-
vidually listed in the indexes to House
Journals, the Congressional Record, and Con-
gressional documents. Such printed indexes
should be used in conjunction with this index
to locate specific documents among the House
records in the National Archives.
