Initiating explosives (lead styphnate, lead trinitror esorcinate-wet with not less than 20% by weight of water).

Initiating explosives (lead mononitroresorcinate, wet with not less than 40% by weight of water).

For safety in transportation these substances are packed wet with water. Therefore, observe outside containers for signs of leakage. Reject leaking containers or ones showing signs of having leaked.

Do not handle these substances at the same time as high explosives are being loaded.

In handling and in stowage, avoid exposure to shock, friction, heat, and open flame. Sufficient outage in outside containers must be allowed to prevent rupture of container in freezing weather, or a mixture of denatured ethyl alcohol and water may be used to prevent freezing in transit. Each outside barrel, drum, or keg must be plainly marked "Initiating ExplosiveDangerous-Do not store or load with any high explosive." do..

Jet thrust units (jato),
Class A explosives.
"Rocket motors, Class
A explosives.
Igniters, Jet thrust (jato),
Olass A explosives.
"Igniters, rocket motor,
Class A explosives.

Metal cylinders containing a mixture of chemicals capable of burning rapidly and producing considerable pressure. Under certain conditions the chemical fuel with which the unit is loaded may explode.

Jet thrust units are designed to be ignited by an electric igniter. They are used to assist airplanes to take off. Rocket motors are devices containing a propelling charge and consisting of one or more continuous type combustion units closed at one end (closure may be an igniter with a thrust plate) and with one or more nozzles at the other end. (The rocket motor carries its own solid oxidizer-fuel combination.) The propelling charge consists of a mixture of chemicals which when ignited is capable of burning rapidly and producing considerable pres sure and which will sustain a detonation.

Igniters are devices consisting of an electrically operated or remotely controlled ignition element and a charge of fast-burning composition meeting the definition for Type I Class A explosives, assembled in a unit, for use in igniting the propelling charge of jet thrust units or rocket motors.

Jet thrust units, Class A explosives or rocket motors, Class A explosives, must not be shipped with igniters assembled therein unless shipped by, for, or to the Department of the Army, the Department of the Navy, or the Department of the Air Force. Jet thrust units Class A explosives or rocket motors, Class A explosives, may be packaged in the same outside packaging with their separately packaged igniters (or igniter components), Class A, B, or C explosives only in packMagings approved by the Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard or approved military specifications complying with DOT regulations. Each outside package must be planly marked "JET THRUST UNIT, CLASS A EXPLOSIVES", "ROCKET MOTOR, CLASS A EXPLO SIVES", "IGNITERS, JET THRUST, CLASS A EXPLOSIVES", or "IGNITERS, ROCKET MOTOR, CLASS A EXPLOSIVES", as appropriate.
