I found this book to be informative, inspiring and very interesting. It gave me an entirely new perspective on Howard Schultz and a new appreciation for Starbucks and the heartfelt beginnings from which it was founded. Read full review

I'm new to management and this book is a very interesting view into how Shultz built a very successful company. It is nice to read about someone who knows that what is best for the employee is what is best for the employer or stock holder. Read full review

Inspiring and informative overview of the rise of Starbucks, the coffee company, from a small obscure base in Seattle, Washington to an international enterprise in about ten years. This is yet another true example of the American Dream fulfilled by vision, hard work and creativity. There are many good examples of how their growth problems were turned into growth opportunities. A good read for anyone trying to grow their own business. The book is well-written, not steeped in business theory, and founded in the application of good human relations.
The book was published in 1997 when Starbucks was at a peak in their phenomenal growth. Someone needs to do a follow-up book to see if the culture established in the 1990s as survived and if the organization continues to represent its original intent. Overall, it is a tribute to what can be accomplished if you literally "Pour Your Heart Into It."

Howard, through this book, attempts to guide small entrepreneurs or experient ones on how to turn their business into remarkable brands. Brands that will live through generations and will be remembered for the value they deliver to people - both employees, customers and shareholders. It inspires new brand concepts to stay focus on their values and be perseverant. For brands that provide people with a better lifestyle and happier life through its products and services are the ones that sustain and continue to be part of the community for generations to come. The book is also a great tool for entrepreneurs to identify potential challenges they may face on their way to growth and to understand the consequences of a decision that is based on reaching profit and status only. Howard has became a positive influence in my day to day decisions and a reference on the way to go.
