This is the first meeting of the subcommittee in charge of the legislative appropriation bill. Last year this committee considered the legislative and judiciary items, but the items for the judiciary have been transferred to the committee from which they came to us. I would like to say that this committee this year has the unusual distinction, and I think it is the only subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations so honored, of having the chairman of the full committee as one of the members of this subcommittee. We are happy to welcome Mr. Cannon to our midst. We are also glad to welcome to this committee, Congressman Curley, of Massachusetts, and Congressman Rooney, of New York. I am sure they will be a great addition to the work of the committee. I will say it has always been a pleasure for me to serve with the old members of the committee, Congressman Johnson, of Indiana; Congressman Ploeser, of Missouri; and Congressman Tibbott, of Pennsylvania. The first items we have for our consideration are the items for the Library of Congress. Before going into a discussion of those items of the appropriation, I would like to say that I personally, and it is M533138 1 |
