EXECUTIVE OFFICE.

STATEMENTS OF LIEUT. COL. CLARENCE O. SHERRILL, IN CHARGE, OFFICE OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS; MAJ. DOUGLAS L. WEART, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT; AND MAJ. O. M. BALDINGER, IN CHARGE WHITE HOUSE POLICE.

EXECUTIVE MANSION.

FOR CARE, REPAIR, REFURNISHING, ETC.

Mr. WOOD. Your first item is on page 5, "For ordinary care, repair, and refurnishing of Executive Mansion, to be expended by contract or otherwise, as the President may determine, $50,000." That is the amount of the current appropriation.

Colonel SHERRILL. Yes, sir; that is the same.

FUEL.

Mr. WOOD. For fuel for the Executive Mansion and greenhouses, your estimate is $12,000, and that is the amount appropriated for the present fiscal year.

Colonel SHERRILL. That is the same.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF GREENHOUSES.

Mr. WOOD. For care and maintenance of greenhouses, Executive Mansion, your estimate $9,000, which is the amount of the current appropriation.

Colonel SHERRILL. Yes, sir; that is the same.

Mr. Wood. Is $9,000 used every year for the care and maintenance of those greenhouses?

Colonel SHERRILL. Yes, sir.

Mr. WOOD. Do you not build some new ones occasionally out of this fund?

Colonel SHERRILL. No, sir; this item you are speaking of now is for care and maintenance. That means the setting of the plants in the greenhouses, etc. The next item is the one you are referring to.
