charges consist of a casing containing a high explosive and are used to increase the intensity of explosion of the detonator of a detonating fuze.

Bursters (explosive)... Bursters consist of a casing

containing a high explosive and are used to rupture a projectile or bomb to permit release of its contents. Detonating fuzes, class A, are used in the military service to detonate the high explosive bursting charges of projectiles, mines, bombs, torpedoes and grenades. In addition to a powerful detonator, they may contain several ounces of a high explosive, such as tetryl or dry nitrocellulose, all assembled in a heavy steel envelope. They may also contain a small amount of radioactive component. Radiation on the surface of any detonating fuze having a radioactive component shall not exceed 100 milliroentgens per hour. Detonating fuzes that are so made and packed that they will not cause functioning of other fuzes, explosives, or explosives devices, in the same or adjacent containers are classed as class C explosives. Do not stow detonating fuzes with any high explosives; and

Do not load at the same time that high explosives are being loaded.

Outside containers:

Strong tight wooden or metal boxes, not over 190 lb. gr. wt. for detonating fuzes. Not over 300 lb. gr. wt. for boosters, bursters, and supplementary charges without detonators.

Detonating primers are devices for commercial use which contain a detonator and an additional charge of explosives, all assembled in a suitable envelope. The total weight of explosives is more than 150 grains per unit. Do not stow detonating primers with any high explosive. Do not load at the same time as high explosives are being loaded.

Each outside container must be plainly marked "Detonating primers-Handle carefully."

Do not handle these substances at the same time as high explosives are being loaded. In handling and in stowage, avoid exposure to shock, friction, heat, and open flame.

Sufficient outage in outside containers must be allowed to prevent rupture of container in freezing weather, or a mixture of denatured ethyl alcohol and water may be used to prevent freezing in transit.

Each outside barrel, drum, or keg must be plainly marked "Initiating ExplosiveDangerous-Do not store or load with any high explosive." ..do.
