CHAPTER 517.

HOUSE BILL No. 854.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Harrison county and Jackson county to construct a bridge across Back Bay between said counties.

Harrison and Jackson counties may construct bridge across Back Bay.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Harrison county and the board of supervisors of Jackson county, be and the same are hereby authorized, in their discretion, to construct a bridge across Back Bay, between the cities of Biloxi and Ocean Springs. And may pay for same by a general bond issue, after holding an election as now authorized by law.

Cost to be apportioned between the counties.

Sec. 2. That the said boards are further authorized to apportion the cost of said construction in accordance with the assessed valuation of each county or the benefit derived from each county.

Sec. 3. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 518.

HOUSE BILL No. 856.

AN ACT to authorize the transfer of funds in the county depository of Harrison county, Mississippi, to the credit of the Pass Christian separate road district to the highway fund, district No. 3 of said county. May transfer funds to credit of Pass Christian Separate Road District to highway fund of district No. 3.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Harrison county are authorized and empowered and directed to transfer to the road or

highway fund of supervisors' district No. 3 of said county, all the funds, together with all accrued interest thereon, now in the county treasury of said county and now on deposit in the First National Bank of Gulfport, the official county depository of said county, to the credit of the Pass Christian separate road district, which said district is located in board of supervisors' district No. 3, of said county, which said separate road district was created under chapter 173 of the laws of 1914, and that when said funds are so transfered, the same to be used and appropriated by the board of supervisors of said county in the construction, repair and maintenance of the public highways in said board of supervisors' district.

Sec. 2. Be it further enacted, That the taxpayers within the said Pass Christian separate road district, who paid the said tax of ten mills levied on their respective taxable property for the said year 1921, be treated and considered as having paid the regular ten mill levy for road purposes levied as a general road tax for the year 1921 for said board of supervisors' district No. 3.

Sec. 3. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 519.

HOUSE BILL No. 943.

AN ACT to authorize the board of trustees of the Advance Consolidated School District of Harrison county to borrow not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500.00).

Advance Consolidated School District may borrow money.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of trustees of the Advance Consolidated School District of Harrison county be and the same are hereby authorized to borrow the sum of not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500.00) from any money of the bond sinking funds of the said consolidated district at a rate of interest not to exceed six per cent for a period not to exceed two years.

Sec. 2. That the purpose of this act is to authorize the above named board to borrow said money for the purpose of continuing said school.

Sec. 3. That this act be enforced from and after its passage.

AN ACT to authorize the board of trustees of the Orange Grove Consolidated School of Harrison county to borrow not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500.00).

Orange Grove Consolidated School District may borrow money.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of trustees of the Orange Grove Consolidated School of Harrison county be and the same are hereby authorized to borrow the sum of not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500.00) from any money of the bond sinking funds of the said consolidated district at a rate of interest not to exceed six per cent and for a period not to exceed two years.

Sec. 2. That the purpose of this act is to authorize the above named board to borrow said money for the purpose of continuing said school, and paying for fixtures.

Sec. 3. That this act be enforced from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 521.

HOUSE BILL No. 991.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Harrison county to borrow the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) to pay the teachers, and incidental expenses of the schools of the Mississippi City rural separate school district, of Harrison county, for the remainder of the session of 1923-24.

Harrison county to borrow money to pay teachers.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Harrison county be, and the same are hereby authorized to borrow the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) on a petition of the five trustees of the Mississippi City separate school district, and place the same to the credit of the said school district, to be drawn on by certificates and warrants in the manner provided by law for the maintenance of the schools of the said school district for the remainder of the session of 1923-1924.

How money to be repaid.

Sec. 2. That the said one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) shall be repaid from the taxes levied and collected in the said school district from the special levy of said school district for the year 1924.

Sec. 3. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 522.

HOUSE BILL No. 1025.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Harrison county, Mississippi, in their discretion, to pay O. J. Cuevas, not to exceed two hundred seventy dollars ($270.00) to reimburse him for damages to an automobile, for running into a creek off of an open bridge on the public highway.

Harrison county to pay O. J. Cuevas for damage to automobile.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Harrison county, Mississippi, be and the same is hereby authorized, in their discretion to pay O. J. Cuevas not to exceed two hundred and seventy dollars ($270.00) to reimburse him for damage to an automobile, while attempting to cross a creek, and ran off into the creek through an open bridge on the public highway of said county.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 523.

HOUSE BILL No. 1024.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Harrison county, Mississippi, in their discretion, to pay T. H. O'Neal an amount not to exceed five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) to reimburse him for loss of an automobile and permanent injuries, for running into Saucier creek, off an open bridge on the public highway.

Harrison county may pay T. H. O'Neal for loss of automobile.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Harrison county, Mississippi, be and the same are hereby authorized, in their discreton, to pay T. H. O'Neal an amount not to exceed five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) to reimburse him for the loss of an automobile and personal injuries sustained, by him, while attempting to cross Saucier creek through an open bridge on the public highway of said county, in the year 1924.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Hinds county, Mississippi, in their discretion, to refund to Donald McClure the sum of thirty seven and forty-three hundredths dollars ($37.43) for taxes paid on over valuation on certain property situated in the county of Hinds, Mississippi.

To refund taxes to Donald McClure.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Hinds county, Mississippi, be and the same are hereby authorized, in their discretion, to refund and pay to Donald McClure, the sum of $37.43 or as much thereof as may be due him on account of the payment of taxes on erroneous assessment of real estate for the year of 1921. Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

HOUSE BILL No. 787.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Holmes county to refund E. C. Mayfield certain taxes erroneously paid.

To refund taxes to E. C. Mayfield.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Holmes county are authorized, in their discretion, to pay E. C. Mayfield, a sum of money not to exceed $91.20 for taxes erroneously paid on lot 66 in the town of Durant, Holmes county, Mississippi.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Holmes county to refund Horace Weir certain taxes erroneously paid.

To refund taxes to Horace Weir.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Holmes county, Mississippi, are authorized in their discretion, to pay Horace Weir a sum of money not to exceed $10.12 for taxes erroneously paid on part of lot No. 82 in the town of Durant, Holmes county, Mississippi.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
