burg, a sum not to exceed the sum of $5,000.00, which sum shall be used for the purpose of equipping and furnishing a cafeteria in the high school building of the city of Hattiesburg, which cafeteria shall be operated for the accommodation and use, if desired by them, of all of the grade and high school pupils attending said school, and all teachers teaching in said school.

Sec. 2. That this act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 407.

SENATE BILL No. 284.

AN ACT to authorize the mayor and commissioners of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to transfer certain balances in the municipal treasury to the bond sinking fund.

Hattiesburg to transfer certain balances to the bond sinking fund.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the mayor and commissioners of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to transfer to the bond sinking fund of the said city the balance of a loan obtained from banks on petition of the qualified electors of the city of Hattiesburg, the sum of $5,936.35, which said sum remains as the unexpended balance of the special fund obtained from the above mentioned loan. Sec. 2. That the mayor and commissioners of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, are further empowered to transfer the sum of $1.61 to the bond sinking fund from the city hall building fund, which said balance $1.61 remains as an unexpended balance in the city hall building fund.

Sec. 3. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 408.

SENATE BILL No. 285.

AN ACT to authorize the mayor and commissioners of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to transfer certain balances in the municipal treasury to the bond sinking fund, and repealing chapter 327 of the laws of 1922.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the mayor and commissioners of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized and

empowered, in their discretion, to transfer to the bond sinking fund of said city a balance of $1,723.48, which sum is the unused amount from proceeds of the sale of the Main street school building bonds of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Sec. 2. That the said mayor and commissioners of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, are further authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to transfer the sum of $1,572,63 to the bond sinking fund of the said city, which sum being an unexpended balance from the proceeds of the sale of the colored school building bonds of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Sec. 3. That chapter 327 of the laws of 1922 is hereby repealed.

Sec. 4. That this act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 409.

SENATE BILL No. 1005.

AN ACT to authorize the board of mayor and commissioners of the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to expend a sum of money not to exceed the sum of six thousand five hundred dollars ($6,500.00), out of the current city school fund for the purpose of furnishing and equipping a cafeteria, and furnishing a curtain for the stage in the high school of said city, and to repeal Senate Bill 270 of the laws of 1924. Hattiesburg may furnish and equip cafeteria.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the mayor and commissioners of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized in their discretion to expend out of the current school funds of the said city, a sum of money not to exceed the sum of six thousand five hunderd dollars ($6,500.00) for the purpose of furnishing and equipping a cafeteria, and furnishing a curtain for the stage, in the high school building of the city of Hattiesburg, which cafeteria shall be operated for the accommodation and use if desired by them of all the grade and high school pupils attending said school, and of all teachers teaching in said school.

Senate Bill No. 270 repealed.

Sec. 2. That Senate Bill 270 of the laws of 1924 be and the same is hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. That this act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 410.

HOUSE BILL No. 871.

AN ACT to authorize the mayor and board of aldermen of the town of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, to buy a fire truck and execute its certificates of indebtedness therefor.

Hazlehurst may equip fire department.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the mayor and board of aldermen of the town of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, be empowered and authorized to purchase a fire truck for the use of said town, and that upon an order of said board the mayor may execute the loan certificates of said town evidencing the indebtedness for said fire truck, bearing a rate of interest not exceeding six per centum, and payable on or before February 15, 1925.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after the date of its passage.

AN ACT to authorize the mayor and board of aldermen of the town of Hickory, Newton County, Mississippi, to transfer the sum of thousand dollars ($1,000.00) from the street fund and place the same to the credit of the school fund of said town.

Hickory may transfer certain funds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the mayor and board of aldermen of the town of Hickory, Newton county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby `authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to transfer the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) from the street fund and place the same to the credit of the school fund of said town.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

HOUSE BILL No. 144.

AN ACT authorizing the mayor and board of aldermen of the town of Houston, Mississippi, to spend seventeen hundred and fifty dollars, ($1,750.00) of street funds to aid in graveling the streets around the courthouse yard.

Houston may expend money for street improvement.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the mayor and board of aldermen of the town of Houston, Mississippi, is hereby authorized to spend seventeen hundred and fifty dollars ($1,750.00) of the street funds of said town, in excess of the one thousand dollars budget estimate expenditures on streets for the current year, to aid the county in grading and graveling in the streets around the county court house yard in said town.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

Approved February 5, 1924.

CHAPTER 413.

HOUSE BILL No. 6.

AN ACT authorizing the council of the city of Jackson, Mississippi, to pay J. G. Kennedy one thousand dollars, A. Saums three hundred and fifty dollars, and Mrs. G. T. Fortner two hundred and fifty dollars for damages to their automobiles done by fire truck in the city of Jackson. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of

Jackson may pay certain parties for damage to automobiles.

Mississippi, That the council of the city of Jackson, Mississippi, be and it is hereby fully authorized and empowered, in its discretion, to appropriate and to issue warrants for, and to pay the same out of the funds of the city of Jackson for the following amounts, to the following persons, to-wit:

because of, and in payment for damages done to the automobiles of the respective parties by reason of a fire truck owned and operated by the city of Jackson having run into and damaged said automobiles on Sunday, August 27, 1923, about twelve o'clock,

noon, while said automobiles were parked on West Capitol street in the said city of Jackson, without negligence on the part of the three above named parties.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 414.

HOUSE BILL No. 984.

AN ACT to authorize the town of Leland, Mississippi, to issue bonds for the purpose of procuring the Delta State Teachers' College.

Leland may issue bonds to secure Delta State Teachers College.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the town of Leland, Mississippi, be and it is hereby authorized and empowered to issue bonds of said town up to and including the amount of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00), or so much thereof as may be authorized by a majority of the qualified electors thereof at an election to be held for that purpose, to aid in the procuring, the establishment, and location of the Delta Teachers' College. Said bonds shall be issued in all accordance with sections 3416, 3419, and 3420 of the code of 1906 and acts amendatory thereto, and chapter 206 of the 1920 laws of Mississippi, and acts amendatory thereto, but shall not be included in computing any limits which are now placed by law on the amount of bonds to be issued by said town. A majority of the votes cast in said election shall determine the result. If a majority of those voting in an election held for that purpose shall cast their vote for the said bond issue, then the bonds shall be issued in the amount authorized in said election. The proceeds of the sale of said bonds shall be used for the purchase of land, or erecting a building, or buildings, or in any other way to aid in the location of the said Delta Teachers' College.

Bonds to be issued as all other municipal bonds are issued.

Sec. 2. That the bonds issued under this act shall be issued as all other municipal bonds are required to be issued.

Sec. 3. That this act shall take effect and be in force from andafter its passage.
