AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Rankin county to transfer certain funds from the general county fund to the tick eradication fund in said county.

Rankin county may transfer money from general fund to tick eradication fund.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Rankin county, Mississippi, be and it is hereby authorized, in its discretion, to transfer from the general county fund of said county to the tick eradication fund of said county the sum of twenty five hundred dollars ($2,500.00), or so much thereof as will be necessary to properly carry on the work of tick eradication in Rankin county.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 656.

HOUSE BILL No. 438.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Rankin county, Mississippi, in their discretion, to pay R. E. Murray, for damages to his portable saw-mill engine and boiler caused by a defective public. bridge in said county. /

Rankin county may pay R. E. Murray for damages to portable saw-mill engine and boiler.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Rankin county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion to pay R. E. Murray a sum not exceeding four hundred and fifty dollars, ($450.00) as damages to compensate him for injury to his portable saw-mill engine and boiler caused by it falling through a defective public bridge in said county during November, 1921.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 657.

HOUSE BILL No. 67.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Rankin county to retire certain bonds issued.

Rankin county may retire certain bonds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Rankin county, Mississippi, be and it is authorized and empowered to pay off prior to maturity all, or any part of a certain $10,000.00 bond issue of the Johns Consolidated School District, in Rankin county, by paying par, accrued interest and a bonus or premium of not to exceed one year's interest on said bonds; that the amount necessary to pay off or redeem the said bonds shall be payable out of any funds to the credit of the said school district, in the county treasury. Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Rankin county to pay certain claims.

Rankin county may pay certain claims.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Rankin county, Mississippi, be and it is authorized to pay, in its discretion, out of the Road and Bridge Fund, or General County Fund, of said county, the following claims, to-wit:-W. D. Owens, constructing a bridge across Pelahatchie creek, on the Pelahatchie and Shiloh public road, the sum of $310.80; W. P. White, constructing a bridge across Steen's Creek, on the lower Terry public road, the sum of $800,00.

Sec. 2. This act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of Rankin county, Mississippi, to transfer the sum of eight hundred dollars ($800.00) from the sinking fund of the Star Consolidated School district in Rankin county, Mississippi, to the maintenance fund.

Rankin county may transfer certain school funds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Rankin county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to transfer the sum of eight hundred dollars ($800.00) from the sinking fund of the Star Consolidated School District in Rankin county, Mississippi, to the maintenance fund.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 660.

SENATE BILL No. 287.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Rankin county, Mississippi, in their discretion, to pay the sum of $332.00 to J. H. Moss.

Rankin county may pay J. H. Moss for damage to automobile.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Rankin county, be, and they are hereby authorized, in their discretion, to pay J. H. Moss the sum of $332.00 for damage to his automobile caused by a falling tree while his said car was on the public highway, near Gallilee on the road known as the Old Raleigh-Brandon road, in said county.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 661.

HOUSE BILL No. 66.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of Scott county to build and equip a court house at a maximum cost of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) by a direct tax and spread out the cost thereof over a period of five years so that a tax shall be levied and collected each year sufficient to pay one-fifth of the cost and interest thereon, and to borrow not exceeding said amount of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) and issue loan warrants therefor in denominations of one-fifth of the principal sum, one maturing each year until the whole amount is paid, under certain conditions herein provided, and to pay interest on said amounts so borrowed at a rate of not exceeding six per centum per annum.

Scott county to build and equip court house.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Scott county, be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered to build and equip a courthouse in and for said county at a maximum cost of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) by a direct tax and spread out the cost thereof over a period of five years so that a tax shall be levied and collected each year sufficient to pay one-fifth of the total cost and interest.

May borrow money to build court house.

Sec. 2. That the board of supervisors of said county are further authorized and empowered to borrow not exceeding said sum of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) with which to build and equip said courthouse and issue loan warrants of the county therefor in denominations of one-fifth of the principal sum so borrowed and provided that one of said loan warrants shall mature and be paid annually until the whole amount is paid; Provided, however, that before the issuance of any of the herein mentioned loan warrants, the board of supervisors shall publish notice of its intention to issue same, said notice to be published each week for three weeks in some newspaper having a general circulation in said county before the meeting of said board proposes to issue said loan warrants, and if within that time twenty per cent of the qualified electors of the county shall protest against the issuance of said loan warrants, then said loan warrants shall not be issued unless authorized by a majority of the qualified electors voting at an election. to be called and held for that purpose in said county. Interest limited to 6%.

Sec. 3. That the board of supervisors of said county are further authorized and empowered to pay interest on said sum or sums borrowed as herein provided at a rate not exceeding six per cent per annum.

Sec. 4. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Scott county to borrow money for road work, and to repay the same.

Scott county may borrow money for road work-Loan warrants to be issued. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Scott county may, from time to time, borrow money for any supervisor's district and cover the same into the road maintenance fund of such supervisor's district and repay the same out of any money coming into said fund. No such loan shall be made for a longer term than one year. The rate of interest shall not exceed six per cent per annum; and the total amount of such loans outstanding for any one district shall not at any one time exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00). The president of the board, when authorized by the board, may execute the loan warrants of such supervisor's district, payable to the lender in accordance with the terms of the loan. Three weeks notice to be given of intention to issue loan warrants.

Sec. 2. Provided, however, that before the issuance of any of the herein mentioned loan warrants, the board of supervisors shall publish notice of its intention to issue same, said notice to be published each week for three weeks in some newspaper having a general circulation in said county before the meeting at which said board proposes to issue said loan warrants, and if within that time twenty per cent of the qualified electors of such supervisors district shall protest against the issuance of said loan warrants, then said loan warrants shall not be issued unless authorized by a majority of the qualified electors voting at an election to be called and held for that purpose in said supervisor's district.

Sec. 3. That this act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 663.

HOUSE BILL No. 587.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Scott county, Mississippi, in their discretion, to pay Oscar Newton, Jr., and Arthur Tindall a sum not exceeding three hundred dollars ($300.00) for a truck damaged on a bridge operated, maintained and constructed by said county, caused by a defective condition of said bridge.

Scott county may pay Oscar Newton, Jr., and Arthur Tindall for damage to truck.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Scott county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized, in their discretion, to
