AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Prentiss county, Mississippi, to order an election in the fifth supervisors district of Prentiss county, Mississippi, to ascertain the will of the majority of the qualified electors therein in regard to issuing fifteen thousand dollars worth of bonds to mature within twenty years, the proceeds of which are to be used to purchase equipment, construct and maintain public roads in said district.

Prentiss county may order election on public roads in District No. 5.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Prentiss county, Mississippi, be, and it is hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to order an election to be held within thirty days from the date of said order in the fifth district of said county for the purpose of ascertaining the will of the majority of the qualified electors in said district in regard to issuing fifteen thousand dollars worth of serial bonds at a rate of interest not to exceed 6% to mature within twenty years for the purpose of constructing, purchasing equipment and maintaining the public road of said district. That the board of supervisors, may, in their discretion, determine the denomination of said bonds and the date of redemption of same together with all other questions that may arise under the issuance of said bonds; provided, a majority of the qualified electors voting in said election to be held in said fifth supervisors district vote for the issuance of said bond, and if a majority of said electors vote against the issuance of said bonds, then the said shall not be issued.

General election laws to govern.

Sec. 2. Be it further provided that the law governing elections shall govern the election provided for in this act.

Board of supervisors may levy special tax.

Sec. 3. It is further provided that the board of supervisors is hereby empowered and authorized to levy annually a special tax against all of the property of said district sufficient to take care of the interest of said bonds and to provide a sinking fund for their redemption.

Sec. 4. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 639.

SENATE BILL No. 544.

AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Prentiss county, Mississippi, to borrow ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) for the benefit of the common county fund of said county at a rate of interest not more than six per cent (6%) per annum, and to issue loan warrants therefor to be paid out of common county taxes collected for the year 1924. Prentiss county authorized to borrow money for common schools.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Prentiss county, Mississippi, be and it is hereby authorized, in its discretion, to borrow as much as ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) for the benefit of the common fund of said county, and to issue loan warrants therefor bearing a rate of interest not to exceed six (6%) per cent per annum, to be paid out of the taxes of the year 1924 accruing to said fund.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 640.

SENATE BILL No. 302.

AN ACT for the relief of the first good roads district of the third district of Prentiss county, Mississippi, to enable said district to use $263.73 to the credit of the building fund for maintenance of said roads.

Prentiss county may transfer certain road funds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Prentiss county, Mississippi, acting for and on behalf of the first good roads district of the third supervisors district of Prentiss county, Mississippi, be and are hereby empowered, authorized, in their dicretion, to take charge of and to use $263.73 now to the credit of the building fund of said district and to use the same for the maintenance of the highways of the said good roads district under the supervison and by the authority of the said board of supervisors, there being no commissioners for the said good roads district.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT empowering the good roads commissioners of the fourth district of Prentiss county to transfer the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) from the interest and sinking fund of said good road district to the road building fund of said district.

Prentiss county may transfer certain funds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the good roads commissioners of the fourth district of Prentiss county be and they are hereby empowered to transfer the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) from the interest and sinking fund of said good road district to the road building fund of said district. The said sum being the amount of money borrowed by the commissioners for the purpose of carrying on the road work before the bonds had been delivered.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

HOUSE BILL NO. 1048.

AN ACT empowering the board of supervisors of Prentiss county to donate money to Artia Missia McCormack.

Prentiss county may donate to Artia Missia McCormack.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Prentiss county be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to donate to Artia Missia McCormack a sum of money not to exceed five dollars ($5.00) per month for her support and mainten

ance.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 643.

HOUSE BILL No. 586.

AN ACT to allow the board of supervisors of Quitman county, Mississippi, in its discretion, to pay to L. G. Newsom $475.00, or so much thereof as they deem just, for deputy tax assessors employed by L. G. Newsom, tax assessor in said county, for the year 1923.

Quitman county may pay for deputy tax assessors!

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Quitman county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby empowered, in their discretion, to pay to L. G. Newsom, an amount not exceeding $475.00, in order to reimburse the said L. G. Newsom for amounts and expenditures paid out by him for assistants and deputy tax assessors employed by the said L. G. Newsom, tax assessor of Quitman county, Mississippi, during the year 1923.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 644.

HOUSE BILL No. 412.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Quitman county, Mississippi, to pay to the Citizens Bank & Trust Company of Marks, Mississippi, assignee of Taylor Gravel Company for gravel furnished for public roads in road district number one of Quitman county, Mississippi. Quitman county may pay the Citizens Bank & Trust Company of Marks, Mississippi, assignee, for gravel.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Quitman county, are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to pay the Citizens Bank & Trust Company of Marks, Mississippi, three thousand two hundred eighty and fifty hundredths dollars ($3,280.50), or so much thereof as they may see fit, out of road funds of road district number one of Quitman county, Mississippi, for gravel furnished to Quitman county on roads in district number one of Quitman county, during the year 1923 by Taylor Gravel Company, which claim was assigned by Taylor Gravel Company to said Citizens Bank & Trust Company, of Marks, Mississippi.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT authorizing and empowering the board of supervisors of Quitman county, Mississippi, to transfer to the general county fund of said county the sum of $17,155.08, and the accrued interest thereon, from the fund now designated as interest and sinking fund on general county bonds.

Quitman county may transfer certain funds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Quitman county, Mississippi, be and it is hereby authorized and empowered to transfer to the general county funds of said Quitman county, Mississippi, the sum of $17,155.08, and all accrued interest thereon, which is now in the treasury of said county to the credit of a fund designated as Interest & Sinking Fund on General County Bonds, all general county bonds and interest of said county having been fully paid and this act is for the purpose of transferring the above amount in the sinking fund above named to the general county fund of said county so that the same may be used for general county purposes. Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 646.

HOUSE BILL No. 451.

AN ACT to emopwer the board of supervisors of Quitman county in their discretion, to pay to Sledge & Weir out of the respective funds of the said county such amounts as may be necessary to adjust and correct the increased assessment paid on Goodman & Bakers subdivision of Falcon of said county for the years 1921 and 1922.

Quitman county may refund to Sledge & Weir certain taxes overpaid.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Quitman county, Mississippi, may, in their discretion, refund and pay to Sledge & Weir such funds and amounts as the board of supervisors of said county deem necessary and just in order to adjust the excess amounts paid on the Goodman & Baker subdivision of Falcon, in said county, for the year 1921 and 1922, the assessment of said subdivision being increased on account of the establishment of said sub-division and which said division has since been vacated by the chancery court of Quitman county, Mississippi; and to empower the board of supervisors of said county to make such refunds and payments
