CHAPTER 611.

SENATE BILL NO. 317.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of Newton county to borrow money for road work done in separate road district number 5, and to repay the same.

Newton county may borrow money for road work.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Newton county may, in its discretion, borrow money and pay the same into the funds of separate road district No. 5, and to repay the same out of any money coming into said fund, said funds to be used to pay for road work performed in said district, no such loan shall be made for a longer period than six years; the rate of interest shall not exceed six per centum per annum, and the total amount of such loan shall not exceed twelve thousand ($12,000.00) dollars; provided, that before the board is authorized to borrow said money and execute said notes it shall publish its intentions to do so for three weeks in a newspaper published in said county, and if during said time 20% of the qualified electors of said district No. 5 protest in writing against the same the said money shall not be borrowed unless authorized at an election which may be held for such purpose as provided by law for elections for the issuance of bonds. Board to execute notes for payment.

The president of the board, when authorized by the board, may execute the note or notes of said separate road district, payable to the lender in accordance with the terms of this act.

Sec. 2. That this act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 612.

HOUSE BILL No. 494.

AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Newton county, Mississippi, to pay Mrs. T. L. Underwood for personal injuries.

Newton county may pay Mrs. T. L. Underwood for personal injuries.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Newton county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby empowered, in their discretion, to pay Mrs. T. L. Underwood, out of the general county fund, a sum not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) for personal injuries suffered by her on the Simmons Creek public bridge in the northwest corner of Newton county, Mississippi, in the year 1922.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Newton county to refund thirty nine dollars and thirty eight cents ($39.38) to I. H. Brown, for county tax paid on land sold for taxes when no tax was due on

same.

Newton county to refund taxes to I. H. Brown.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Newton county is hereby authorized and directed to refund to I. H. Brown the sum of thirty-nine dollars and thirty-eight cents, being the amount paid by the said I. H. Brown, into the county treasury for taxes, on lands sold for taxes for the fiscal year 1922, when no taxes was due on said lands.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 614.

HOUSE BILL NO. 232.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Newton county, Mississippi, to transfer the sum of twenty-five hundred ($2500.00) from the maintenance fund or separate road district fund number 5, of said county and state to the common road fund of said district.

Newton county may transfer certain funds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Newton county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized, empowered and directed, in their discretion, to transfer the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars ($2,500.00) from the maintenance fund of separate road district No. 5, of Newton county, Mississippi, and place the same to the credit of the common road fund of said road district.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 615.

HOUSE BILL No. 292.

AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Noxubee county to provide an office for the county commissioner of agriculture and if, in their opinion, it would be for the best interest of the people of said county to employ a stenographer for said commissioner.

Noxubee county to provide office for county commissioner of agriculture.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Noxubee county are hereby authorized to rent an office, for the county commissioner of agriculture of said county and if in their opinion a stenographer is necessary for said commissioner, they are authorized to employ one, and to pay salary and rent out of the general fund of said county.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 616.

HOUSE BILL No. 760.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of Noxubee county to pay for office rent and stenographer hire for the county commissioner of agriculture for the months of December, 1923, January, February and March, 1924, in an amount not exceeding $50.00 per month.

Noxubee county may pay office rent and stenographic hire for county commissioner of agriculture.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Noxubee county be and are hereby authorized and empowered to pay for office rent and stenographer hire for the county commissioner of agriculture for the months of December, 1923, January, February and March, 1924, in an amount not exceeding $50.00 for each month.

Sec. 2. That the payments made by said board of supervisors of Noxubee for stenographer for county commissioner of agriculture for Noxubee county for months of June, July, August, September, October and November, 1923, of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per month be and the same is hereby validated. And the sum of fifteen dollars ($15.00) per month for office rent for said months is hereby validated.

Sec. 3. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT to empower the board of supervisors of Noxubee county, Mississippi, in their discretion, to pay E. C. Walker a sum not exceeding $100.00 for injuries to a mule: said mule being injured because of a defective culvert on public highway.

Noxubee county may borrow money to pay current expenses.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Noxubee county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to pay to E. C. Walker, a sum of money not to exceed $100.00 to compensate him for injuries to one of his mules, which mule was injured during the month of February, 1924, by becoming entangled in a defective and improperly covered galvanized iron culvert on the public highway of said county.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

Approved April 1, 1924.

CHAPTER 618.

HOUSE BILL No. 1039.

AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Noxubee county, Mississippi, to borrow fifty thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, for the purpose of defraying the current expenses of Noxubee county, Mississippi, for the year 1924, and to pay not exceeding six per centum interest thereon per annum, and budget the sum so borrowed.

Noxubee county may borrow to pay current expenses.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Noxubee county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to borrow a sum of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) or as much thereof as may be necessary, to defray the current expenses of Noxubee county, Mississippi, for the year 1924. Said sum so borrowed, with interest thereon, shall be payable not later than the 15th of February, 1925, and shall be the first paid out of the money collected for the taxes of said county of Noxubee, for the year 1924.

Interest limited to 6%.

Sec. 2. That the board of supervisors of said Noxubee county be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to pay not exceeding six per centum per annum on the money borrowed in accordance with section one of this act.

May execute loan warrants.

Sec. 3. That said board of supervisors be and are hereby authorized and empowered to execute the loan warrant or warrants of said Noxubee county to procure the aforesaid loan.

Funds borrowed to be budgeted.

Sec. 4. That the sum so borrowed and covered into the county treasury, shall be budgeted by said board as soon after the passage of this act as practicable.

Sec. 5. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 619.

SENATE BILL No. 103.

AN ACT to validate all of the proceedings of the board of supervisors of Panola county, Mississippi, in the issuance and sale of the bonds of the Pleasant Grove road district of said county, said bonds being numbered from seven to seventy-five, inclusive, aggregating the sum of $6,900.00.

Validate proceedings board of supervisors of Panola county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That proceedings of the board of supervisors of Panola county, Mississippi, in the issuance and sale of the third issue of bonds of the Pleasant Grove road district of Panola county, Mississippi, said bonds being dated July the first, 1921, bearing interest at the rate of six per cent per annum, payable semi-annually and being in the denomination of $100.00; said bonds being numbered from seven to seventy-five, and aggregating the sum of $6,900.00, be and the same are hereby validated, legalized and confirmed in all respects, and the board of supervisors of said county of Panola, be and they are hereby authorized, in their discretion to sell all or any part of said bonds at par, plus accrued interest, without resorting to any further election in said road district in the issuance and sale of said bonds, and the said bonds in the hands of any purchaser be and they are hereby validated, legalized and confirmed in all respects.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
