AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, in their discretion, to pay to H. P. Land, the sum of eight hundred dollars or so much thereof as they may deem proper for damage to his truck and loss of oil caused by falling through a defective bridge.

Neshoba county may pay H. P. Land for damage to truck.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, Mississippi are hereby authorized to pay in their discretion to H. P. Land, the sum of eight hundred dollars, or so much thereof as they may deem proper for damages to his truck and loss of oil caused by falling through a defective bridge on a public highway in said county in the year 1923.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 603.

SENATE BILL No. 118.

AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, Mississippi, in their discretion, to pay Lee Catledge an amount not to exceed seventy five dollars for copying land assessment roll. Neshoba county may pay Lee Catledge for copying land assessment roll.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, Mississippi, are hereby authorized, in their discretion, to pay to Lee Catledge an amount not to exceed seventy-five ($75.00) dollars for copying land assessment roll.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

SENATE BILL No. 181.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, in its discretion, to pay Dr. R. F. Hayes, the sum of $2,000.00 for antitoxin used in treating stock for anthrax.

Neshoba county may pay Dr. F. R. Hayes for anti-toxin.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, is hereby authorized, in its discretion, to pay Dr. R. F. Hayes the sum of $2,000.00, or so much thereof as it may deem just for antitoxin used in treating stock for anthrax.

Said expense was incurred by the said Dr. R. F. Hayes under direction of the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, in the year 1923.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 605.

SENATE BILL NO. 182.

AN ACT authorizing and empowering the commissioners of Lonsilocher drainage district in Neshoba county, Mississippi, to issue negotiable certificates of indebtedness of said district in the sum of four thousand dollars, providing the rate of interest for same, the date of maturity of same, and providing the object for which said certificates or the proceeds thereof may be used and providing how the same may be paid.

Lonsilocher Drainage District may issue negotiable certificates.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the commissioners of Lonsilocher drainage district in Neshoba county, Mississippi, be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered to issue the negotiable certificates of indebtedness of said district in the sum of four thousand dollars for the purpose of refunding certificates of indebtedness amount heretofore issued by said commissioners under the authority of chapter 525, act of the legislature of the state of Mississippi, of 1922.

Certificates limited to $4,000.00.

Sec. 2. That said certificates of indebtedness shall not be for an amount in excess of four thousand dollars, shall not bear interest at a greater rate than six per centum per annum, and shall mature not more than four years from the date of the issuance thereof.

How certificates may be paid.

Sec. 3. That the commissioners may pay said certificates of indebtedness or the interest thereon out of any money coming into their hands as such commissioners which has not already been pledged to pay interest, bonds, or coupons, heretofore issued. And that for the purpose of paying said certificates and interest thereon, at maturity, the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, Mississippi, are hereby authorized to levy a tax on all of the taxable real property in said district in an amount sufficient to pay the same with interest, said tax to be levied in addition to the tax which is now required by law to be levied.

Sec. 4. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, Mississippi, to pay J. A. Price the sum of $508.87 for bridge material and to borrow money to pay same.

Neshoba county may pay J. A. Price for bridge material.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, Mississippi, be and is hereby authorized and empowered in their discretion to pay J. A. Price the sum of $508.87, or so much thereof as is just and reasonable, for material furnished in the construction of bridges in Noxapater swamp in Neshoba county, Mississippi. Said work was performed under the direction of the board of supervisors of Neshoba county on bridges on public highways in the year 1923.

Sec. 2. That the board of supervisors be and is hereby authorized and empowered to borrow a sufficient sum of money to pay the amount found due by the board of supervisors of said county to J. A. Price for material furnished in the construction of bridges in Noxapater swamp.

Sec. 3. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 607.

SENATE BILL NO. 246.

AN ACT for the relief of Beashea drainage district in Neshoba county, Mississippi, to authorize the commissioners of said district to issue bonds in an amount the principal of which, together with the outstanding bonds of the said district, will not exceed the sum of the benefits assessed against the lands embraced within the boundaries of the said drainage district.

Beashea Drainage District may issue bonds.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of commissioners of the Beashea drainage district in Neshoba county, Mississippi, be and they are hereby authorized to issue the bonds of the said drainage district in an amount, the principal of which together with the principal of the outstanding bonds of the said district, shall not exceed the sum of the benefits assessed against the lands in the district. The bonds so issued shall not bear a greater rate of interest than six per cent and shall mature not later than 25 years from the date of their issuance and shall be sold for not less than par value.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 608.

HOUSE BILL No. 786.

AN ACT authorizing and empowering the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, in their discretion, to borrow a sum of money not exceeding eight hundred dollars for the use of the Burnside Consolidated School of said county, in paying an unpaid balance of the purchase money of the school house furniture for said school, and providing for the repayment of same.

Neshoba county may borrow money for Burnside Consolidated School.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, Mississippi, be and the same are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to borrow for the use of the trustees of the Burnside Consolidated School of said county, a sum of money not exceeding eight hundred dollars, to be used by said trustees for the purpose of paying an unpaid balance of the purchase money for the furniture of the school house of the said consolidated school district.

Notes to be executed-Interest limited to 6%.

Sec. 2. That should the board of supervisors see fit to borrow the above sum of money for the purpose above stated, then it shall be an obligation of the said consolidated school district, and the proper authorities are hereby authorized to execute the note of said consolidated school district for the re-payment of said money, said loan not to bear a greater rate of interest than 6% and to be paid back out of the school funds of said district for the next scholastic year. Or should the board of supervisors see fit on a petition of a majority of the patrons of said school, they may levy a special tax on the property of said school district for the payment of this loan.

Sec. 3. That this act be in force and effect from and after its passage.

HOUSE BILL NO. 362.

AN ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, Mississippi, to pay J. C. Culberson for damage caused by falling through a defective bridge.

Neshoba county may pay J. C. Culberson for personal injuries.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Neshoba county, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered in their dis

cretion, to pay J. C. Culberson three hundred ($300.00) dollars, or so much thereof as they may deem proper for injuries to self and team caused by falling through defective bridge on public highway in said county in the year 1923.

Sec. 2. That this act take effect and be in force from and after

its passage.

CHAPTER 610.

SENATE BILL No. 318.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Newton county, Mississippi to borrow not exceeding six thousand dollars ($6,000.00) for the purpose of paying one half of the cost of constructing a steel and concrete bridge across West Chunky river and necessary small bridges on the east edge of said swamp, and on federal aid project number 6. Newton county may borrow money for erection of bridges.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the board of supervisors of Newton county be and it is hereby authorized to borrow not exceeding six thousand ($6,000.00) dollars, for the purpose of paying not exceeding fifty per centum of the total cost of constructing a suitable steel and concrete bridge across West Chunky river and necessary small bridges on the east edge of this swamp on federal aid project No. 6 of Newton county, said sum when so borrowed to be placed to the credit of the general county bridge fund to be used as aforesaid. Provided an equal amount is secured from the federal government to be used thereon for paying for the total balance of constructing said bridge.

Board of supervisors may issue time certificates of indebtedness-Notice to be given.

Sec. 2. That the board of supervisors may issue the necessary time certificates of indebtedness against the said county not exceeding the sum named in section 1 of this act, one-half of said indebtedness to be repaid within one year, and the balance within two years from the date of the issuance of said certificates of indebtedness, said indebtedness, to bear interest at a rate of not exceeding six per centum per annum. Provided, that the board of supervisors shall first publish their intention to borrow said money in a newspaper published in said county for three weeks, and if during said time 20% of the qualified electors of said county protest in writing against the same, the 'said money shall not be borrowed, unless authorized in an election which may be ordered as provided for elections for the issuance of bonds.

Sec. 3. That this act take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
