Federal Extension Service (in cooperation with State and local County Extension Services) offers advisory services and counseling on how to organize, operate, and manage a cooperative. Liaison with other government programs for cooperatives.

LOANS TO COOPERATIVES

ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

Direct loans and repayable advances. For organizing and operating cooperatives that will raise the income and living standards of low-income rural families.

Funds may be used to (1) process products grown on members' farms, (2) assemble, market, and transport home-produced goods, (3) purchase essential machinery and equipment for members use, (4) provide market services, (5) purchase land and buildings for services of cooperative, and (6) pay costs of organizing cooperatives and refinancing certain debts.

ELIGIBILITY

Existing cooperatives or groups desiring to form a cooperative. Two-thirds of members must be from low-income rural families living in open country or town or city where the population is under 5,500.

Evidence that credit is not available on rates and terms they can meet; services are not otherwise adequately provided in the community.

APPLICATION PROCESS
