Water Development for Multiple Purposes

Delaware River Basin Commission

Comprehensive planning and control of projects within the Delaware River Basin.

(The Commission was created as a Federal-Interstate Compact establishment between the U.S. Government and the States of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware.)

WATER RESOURCES ACTIVITIES INCLUDE

(1) flood damage reduction;

(2) conservation and development of ground surface water supplies for municipal, industrial, and agricultural uses; (3) development of recreation facilities;

(4) propagation of fish and game;

(5) promotion of related forestry, soil conservation, and water-
shed projects;

(6) development of hydroelectric power potentialities;
(7) improved navigation; and

(8) abatement and control of stream pollution.

Construction and operation of a major multiple-purpose reservoir-involving flood control, hydroelectric power, recreation, municipal water, industrial water, water quality, and other

purposes.

ELIGIBILITY

Any community or area in the United States.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Each project is first authorized for investigation by an act of Congress. After investigation, subsequent acts of Congress authorize initiation and continuation of construction.

SPECIAL COMMENTS

Obligations for 1970 were $249.2 million; for fiscal 1971-$338.8 million (estimated).

Construction of a major multiple-purpose reservoir-involving irrigation, flood control, hydroelectric power, industrial, recreational, municipal, and other uses of water.

ELIGIBILITY

Any community or area in the 17 western States.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Each project is first authorized for investigation by an act of Congress. After investigation, subsequent acts of Congress authorize initiation and continuation of construction.

SPECIAL COMMENTS

Obligations for fiscal year 1970 were $271.4 million; fiscal year 1971 $321.6 million (estimated); and fiscal year 1972 $384,429 (estimated).
