LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION

ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

Formula grants for construction of new buildings; for additions to existing buildings; and for renovation, alteration, or acquisition of existing buildings.

Architect's fees and cost of land acquisition are included. Also initial equipment, excluding books.

ELIGIBILITY

Interested communities obtain inclusion in annual State plan, prepared by State library extension agency, which is the recipient of the grant.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Interested community should contact Governor, or library agency designated by Governor. State plan must be approved by U.S. Commissioner of Education.

SPECIAL COMMENTS

Basic grant plus population formula. Matching requirements in proportion to State per capita income.

Obligations for fiscal year 1970 were $5 million; for fiscal year 1971-$11 million (estimate).
