Method of Measurement

412.05 Aggregate surface course will be measured by the ton or cubic yard.

When slag and stone (or gravel) are designated as alternative materials for pay items in the bid schedule and payment is by weight, the estimated quantities will be based on assumed average bulk specific gravities of available alternative materials. No adjustment in contract unit price will be made for variation in quantity due to differences in the specific gravity of the material actually used.

Chemical additives will be measured by the number of tons furnished and actually applied.

Water added to the materials by direction of the Engineer will be measured by the M G. (1,000 gallons) by means of calibrated tanks or distributors or by accurate water meters furnished by the Contractor.

Basis of Payment

412.06 The accepted quantities of aggregate surface course, of the size and type specified, determined as provided above, will be paid for at the contract prices per ton or cubic yard for aggregate, per ton for chemical additives, and per M G. (1,000 gallons) for water, complete in place, which price and payment will be full compensation for the work of this section.

When more than one grading is specified, letter suffixes will be added to the item numbers to differentiate between gradings.

Pay item number 412 (4) will have numerical suffixes added to indicate alternative types of material to be bid on.

Section 413.-STOCKPILED AGGREGATES

Description

413.01 This work shall consist of furnishing and placing aggregates in stockpiles in reasonably close conformity with these specifications at the locations shown on the plans or in the special provisions or as directed and approved by the Engineer.

Materials

413.02 Stockpiled aggregates shall conform to the requiremeants of the section indicated in the pay item in the bid schedule.

Sampling for acceptance will be taken during the forming and/or after completion of the stockpile.

Construction Requirements

413.03 The stockpile sites, as staked by the Engineer, shall be prepared by clearing and disposing of all trees, stumps, brush, and debris as provided in section 201. The floor for each stockpile shall be comparatively uniform in cross section. The completed stockpiles shall be neat and regular in form and shall be made to occupy the smallest feasible areas. Only when ordered by the Engineer shall the height of the piles or their average depth be less than 20 feet. The side slopes shall not be flatter than 11⁄2:1.

Stockpiling of aggregates shall be in accordance with subsection 106.06.

Method of Measurement

413.04 The quantity of aggregate to be paid for will be the number of cubic yards or tons as ordered and placed in authorized stockpiles. When payment by the cubic yard is called for in the bid schedule, completed stockpiles will be measured and computed by the average end area method. No allowance will be made for settlement or shrinkage.

When slag and stone (or gravel) are designated as alternative materials for pay items in the bid schedule and payment is by weight, the estimated quantities will be based

on assumed average bulk specific gravities of available alternative materials. No adjustment in contract unit price will be made for variation in quantity due to differences in the specific gravity of the material actually used.

Basis of Payment

413.05 The accepted quantities of stockpiled aggregate, determined as provided above, will be paid for at the contract price per pay unit complete in place, which price and payment will be full compensation for the work of this section, except for clearing stockpile sites, which will be paid for under section 201.

Payment will be made under:

When more than one grading is specified, letter suffixes will be added to pay item numbers to differentiate between gradings.

Pay item number 413(2) will have numerical suffixes added to indicate alternative types of material to be bid on.

Section 414 through 499.-RESERVED

Section 500

RIGID PAVEMENT

Section 501.-PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE

PAVEMENT

Description

501.01 This work shall consist of constructing a pavement composed of air-entrained portland cement concrete, with or without reinforcement as specified, constructed on a prepared subgrade or base course in accordance with these specifications and in reasonably close conformity with the lines, grades, thicknesses, and typical cross sections shown on the plans or established by the Engineer.

Materials

501.02 Materials shall meet the requirements of the subsections noted, modified as specified herein.

Fine aggregate
Coarse aggregate
Portland cement

703.01(a)

703.02

701.01

At the option of the Contractor, portland cement of type I, II, I-A or II-A may be used. When directed by the Engineer, type III or III-A shall be used and additional payment will be allowed therefor; as provided in subsection 501.25. If requested by the Contractor, the Engineer may approve the use of type III or type III-A cement, at no increase in the contract price.

When types I, II, or III are used, an approved airentraining agent shall be added.

When an air-entraining type of cement is used, the Contractor shall maintain a supply of non-air-entraining cement of the same type from the same source and a supply of airentraining admixture, for use in regulating the air content of concrete, if necessary.
