A convention of Delegates from the Councils of Royal and Select Masters in Maryland, assembled at Masonic Temple, Baltimore, on the twelfth day of May, A. D. 1874-A. Dep. 2874, in response to a circular letter from Concordia Council, No. 1, of Royal and Select Masters, to take into consideration the propriety of forming a Grand Council to perpetuate the Degrees in this State.

The following accredited delegates were present:

Comp. G. L. McCahan was called to the chair, and Comp. J. W. Bowers was appointed Secretary.

The Chairman stated the object of the Convention and the desirability of the proposed action, giving in the course of his remarks an historical synopsis of the status of the degrees in Maryland.

Companion E. L. Parker, Jr., offered the following resolution: Resolved, That we, the delegates from the several Councils, in Convention assembled, do now constitute and form a Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters, for the jurisdiction of Maryland.

The resolution was unanimously adopted.

Companion J. W. Bowers, moved that a Committee of three be appointed by the Chair to draft a Constitution for the Grand Council. Adopted.

The Chair appointed Companions J. W. Bowers, F. J. S. Gorgas, and E. L. Parker, Jr., who retired and in due time reported the result of their deliberations.

On motion the Report of the Committee was accepted.

The Articles of the Constitution were taken up seriatim and after some discussion adopted unanimously.

Companion E. L. Parker, then moved that the Grand Council go into an Election for Officers, to serve until the Annual Assembly in November next.

Adopted.

Election was then held and resulted as follows:

The Most Illustrious Grand Master, Elect, then called to the East, Illustrious Companion Gorgas, who installed Companion George L. McCahan, Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council of Maryland.

The Most Ill. Grand Master then installed the remaining officers elect.

The M. I. G. Master appointed:

G. C. of the Guard.
G. C. of the Council.
G. Steward.

D. G. Master Bowers moved that a Committee on Work, be now appointed to report at the Annual Assembly.

G. C. of the G., Com. Parker offered an amendment, that the first three officers of the Grand Council constitute said Committee.

Amendment carried-Motion adopted as amended.

G. P. C. of the W., Comp. S. C. Bush, moved that the Officers of the Grand Council be authorized to issue Charters of Recognition to all Councils of this State, that may apply. Adopted.

G. C. of the C., Comp. Haller moved that as soon as funds are in hand that circulars be printed setting forth the action of the Convention and transmitted to other Grand Councils, and further that the Constitution be printed. Adopted.

No further business claiming the attention of the Grand Council, it was closed in ample form.

The Most Ill. Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Maryland, convened in Annual Assembly, in Masonic Temple in the City of Baltimore, November 9th, A. D. 1874-A. Dep. 2874, at 3 o'clock P. M.

The Grand Council was opened in due form. Proceedings of the last Assembly were read and approved.

The M. Ill. Grand Master appointed Companions, T. W. Warfield, C. E. Dorsey, and W. J. Walker, as Committee on Credentials.

The M. Ill. Grand Master stated to the Grand Council that the M. Ill. Grand Master, Comp. George L. McCahan, having been called out of the City unexpectedly and would not be present until to-morrow, he would call the Grand Council off until Wednesday, November the 10th, at 3 o'clock, P. M. The Grand Council was then called off.

Wednesday, November 10th, A. D. 1874-A. Dep. 2874.

The Most Illustrious Grand Council of Maryland resumed labor at 3 o'clock, P. M.

The Records of the Proceedings of November 9th, were read and approved.

The Committee on Credentials and Returns presented the following report, which was on motion received and the Committee discharged:

TO THE MOST ILL. GRAND COUNCIL OF ROYAL AND SELECT MASTERS OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND:

Your Committee on Credentials and Returns report, that the following Councils have made correct returns and paid dues, and their Representatives are entitled to seats in this Grand Council.

The Most Illustrious Grand Master appointed Companions W. F. Cochran, H. L. Emmons and W. J. Walker, as Committee on Finance.

On motion, the Grand Council now proceeded to the Election of Officers, with the following result:

Companion S. C. Bush, as Grand Master of Ceremonies, presented Companion George L. McCahan, Most Illustrious Grand Master, Elect, who was duly installed, by Past Illustrious Master. H. L. Emmons.

The remaining Grand Officers elect, were presented by Companion S. C. Bush, and were installed by the Most Illustrious Grand Master, George L. McCahan.
