Open issues pertaining to the Launch Pad Station Set (V23) are listed below. Resolution of these issues is planned during the integration

contract.

a.

PCR/Launch Control Center (LCC) internal vibration environment and effect on support equipment.

b.

Final approval and incorporation of payload requirements document items into SSS and FDS.

c.

6.4% scale model acoustic study results indicated SRB water could be deleted. Payload bay acoustic environment and over-pressure pulse concerns may not allow deletion of SRB water.

d. NASA data indicates that probability of being able to launch any hour, day or night, from VAFB is lower than at KSC due to ET icing potential increase at VAFB location.

e.

SRB final insulation application.

f.

Identification of recycle requirement from two hour.

Station Set V27, Flight Crew Systems (FCS)

Current Baseline

The Flight Crew Systems Station Set is comprised of the facilities and services necessary to provide technical and logistic support of Flight Crew Equipment (FCE) and of flight crew members when resident at VAFB. Equipment requirements encompass receiving, inventory, storage and distribution of pre-packed FCE supplies from off-site locations; receipt, handling, maintenance, service and delivery of reusable FCR and associated SE.

The Flight Crew Station Set is comprised of two facilities. Living
quarters for the flight crew while at VAFB are provided in the Flight
Crew Accommodations Facility (FCAF). These quarters include bedrooms,
offices, bathrooms, kitchen dining area and exercise/recreational
facilities accommodating up to ten people. This facility provides
the capability for biological isolation of flight crews if required
in conjunction with the Health Stabilization Program. The Flight
Crew Equipment Facility (FCEF) contains environmentally controlled
rooms which are provided for receiving, inspection, and storage of
mission peculiar FCE in containers as received from JSC as well as
multi-mission FCE retained at VAFB. A class 100,000 clean room is
provided for repair, testing, maintenance and servicing, of selected
FCE, such as flight stowage lockers, loose FCE and related equipment.
