Congress of the United States

JOINT ECONOMIC COMMITTEE

(CREATED PURSUANT TO SEC. 3(4) OF PUBLIC LAW 304, 78TH CONGRESS)
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20510

July 26, 1977

The Honorable Walter Huddleston

Chairman

Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee
Senate Appropriations Committee
Washington, D. C.

Dear Senator Huddleston:

This is in response to the request submitted by staff

for a preview of our FY 1979 budget request.

As nearly as can be seen at this time, I would not expect any requirements over and above our budget for FY 1978 ($1,697,100) with the exception of funds to cover the anticipated October 1, 1977, cost-of-living increase.

The Committee has been directed by House Concurrent Resolution 248 to undertake a series of special studies dealing with basic economic changes to be expected in the near future, with particular reference to their implications for public policy. These studies are to be financed from the Contingent Fund of the Senate and will be carried out as a separate aspect of the Committee's activities. As such, they will be conducted separately from the ongoing work of the Joint Economic Committee, much the same as our earlier special studies were handled. There will, however, be close cooperation and consultation between the respective staffs.

In that regard, I would appreciate any suggestions you and your associates would care to make regarding the subjects to be studied under the Resolution and any other matters relevant thereto.

Very truly yours,

Richard Bolling

Chairman
