CHAP. VI.

Ahasuerus reading in the Chronicles of the good Service deg by Mordecai, taketh Care for his Reward. 4 Haman.coming to fue that Mordecai might be hanged, unawares giveth Counsel that he might do him Honour. 12 Complaining of his Misfortune his Friends tell him of his final Destiny.

ON

N that Night couldnot theKing fleep, and he commanded to bring the Book of Records of the Chronicles; and they were read before the King.

2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Terefh, two of the King's Chamberlains, the Keepers of the Door, who fought to lay Hand on the King Ahafuerus.

3 And the King faid, What Honour and Dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then faid the King's Servants, There is nothing done for him.

4 And the King faid, Who is in the Court? (Now Haman was come into the outward Court of the King's Houfe, to fpeak unto the King, to hang Mordecai on the Gallows that he had prepared for him.)

5 And the King's Servants faid unto him, Haman ftandeth in the Court. And the King faid, Let him come in. 6 And the King faid unto

18 Surely thou didst set them in lippery Places: thou caffedit them down into Deftruction.

8 Let the Royal Apparel be brought which the King ufeth to wear, and the Horfe that the King rideth upon, and the Crown Royal which is fet upon his Head:

9 And let this Apparel and Horfe be delivered to the Hand of one of the King's most noble Princes, that they may aray the Man withal whom the King delighteth to honour, and bring him on Horfeback through the Street of the City, and proclaim before him, Thus fhall it be King delighteth to honour.

27 The Heaven (hall reveal his Iniquity: and the Earth fhall rise up against him.

21 The Increase of his House fhall

depart, and his Goods fhall flow a way in the Day of his Wrath.

29 This is the Portion of a wicked Man from GOD, and the Heritage

10 Then the King faid to Haman, Make hafte, and take the Apparel and the Horfe, as thou haft faid, and do even fo to Mordecai the Jew, that fisteth at the King's Gate: let nothing fail of all that thou haft spoken.

II Then took Haman the Apparel and the Horfe, and arayed Mordecai, and brought him on Horfeback through the Street of the City, and proclaimed before him, Thus fhall it be done unto the Man whom the King delighteth to ho

12 And Mordecai came again to the King's Gate: but Haman hafted to his Houfe, mourning, and having his Head covered.

13 And Haman told his Wife, and all his Friends, every Thing that had befallen him. Then faid his wife Men, and Q.999 2

14 And while they were yet talking with him, came the King's Chamberlains, and hafted to bring Haman unto the Banquet that Efther had prepared.

CHAP. VII.

1 Efther entertaining the King and Haman, maketh Suit for her own Life and her Peoples. 5 She accufeth Haman. 7 The King in his Anger understanding of the Gallows which Ha man had made for Mordecai, caufeth him to be banged thereon.

O the King and Haman came to banquet with the
Queen.

2 And the King faid again to Efther, on the fecond Day, at the Banquet, What is thy Petition, Queen Efther? and it fhall be performed even to the half of the Kingdom.

3 Then the Queen anfwered and faid, If I have found Favour in thy Sight, O King, and if it please the King, let my LIFE be given me at my Petition, and my PEOPLE at my Request.

4 For we are fold, I and my People, to be destroyed, to be flain, and to perish: but if we had been fold for Bond-men and Bond-women, I had held my Tongue, although the Enemy could not countervail the King's Damage.

5 Then the King Ahafuerus anfwered and faid unto Efther, Who is he? and where is he that durft presume in his Heart to do fo?

6 And Efther faid, The Adverfary and Enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the King and the Queen.

7 And the King arifing from the Banquet in his Wrath, went into the Palace Garden; and Haman ftood up to make Request for his Life to the Queen: for he faw that there was Evil determined against him by the King.

8 Then the King returned out of the Palace Garden, into the Place of the Banquet of Wine; and Haman was fallen upon the Bed whereon Efther was. Then faid the King, Will he force the Queen alfo before me in the Houfe? As

10 So they hanged Haman on the Gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the King's Wrath pacified.

18 For the Needy fhall not alway be forgotten: the Expectation of the Poor fhall not perish for ever. 19 Arife, O LORD, let not Man prevail, let the Heathen be judged in thy Sight.

8 Cease from Anger, and forfake Wrath: fret not thy felf in any wife to do Evil.

9 For evil Doers fhall be cut off, but those that wait upon the LORD, fhall inherit the Earth.

10 For yet a little while, and the Wicked fhall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently confider his Place, and it fhall not be

II But the Meek fhall inherit the Earth: and shall delight themselves in the Abundance of Peace.

12 The Wicked plotteth against the Juft, and gnasheth upon him with his Teeth.

13 The LORD hall laugh at him, for he feeth that his Day is coming. 14 The Wicked have drawn out the Sword, and have bent their Bow to caft down the Poor and Needy, and to flay fuch as be of upright Converfation.

15 Their Sword fhall enter into their own Heart, and their Bow fhall be broken.

16 A little that a Righteous Man hath, is better than the Riches of many Wicked.

17 For the Arms of the Wicked fhall be broken: but the Load upholdeth the Righteous.

18 The LORD knoweth the Days of the Upright, and their Inheritance fhall be for ever.

19 They fhall not be afhamed in the evil Time, and in the Days of Famine they shall be fatisfied.

21 But the Wicked fhall perish, and the Enemies of the LORD fall be as the Fat of Lambs, they fhall confume: into Smoke fhall they confume away.

22 For fuch as be bleffed of him, shall inherit the Earth; and they that be curfed of him, fhall be cut off:

23 The Steps of a good Man are ordered by the LORD: and be delighteth in his Way.

Though he fall, he fhall not be utterly caft down for the LORD upholdeth him with his Hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old: yet have I not feen the Righteous forfaken, nor his Seed begging Bread.

27 Depart from Evil, and do Good: and dwell for evermore.

28 For the LORD loveth Judgment, and forfaketh not his Saints, they are preferved for ever: but the Seed of the Wicked fhall be cut off.

32 The Wicked watcheth the Righteous, and feeketh to flay him.

33 The LORD will not leave him in his Hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his Way, and he fhall exalt thee to inherit the Land: When the Wicked are cut off, thou shalt fee it.

35 1 have feen the Wicked in great Power: and spreading himself like a green Bay-trée.

36 Yet he paffed away, and lo, he was not: yea, I fought him, bur he could not be found.

37 Mark the perfe& Man, and behold the Upright: for the End of that Man is Peace.

38 But the Tranfgreffors fhall be deftroyed together, the End of the Wicked fhall be cut off.

39 But the Salvation of the Righteous is of the LORD, he is their Strength in Time of Trouble.
