The hearings by the subcommittee on the agricultural budget estimates for 1967 have been scheduled for the next 2 weeks. It is anticipated that at the conclusion of the hearings with agency officials, the hearings will be recessed until the week of March 21, at which time testimony will be taken from a number of individuals and organizations in regard to various aspects of the budget. These are called outside witnesses. During these next 2 weeks, testimony will be taken from the heads of agencies and staff offices of the Department regarding the program and administrative operations of the Department and in connection with the justification of changes in the budget transmitted to the Congress. At the beginning of the regular hearings each year, as is customary, we are pleased to have as our first witness before the subcommittee the distinguished Secretary of Agriculture, the Honorable Orville L.
