NOTE.

Statistics. The following items relating to the growth of the University Library are taken from the annual report for the year 1888-89:During the year extending from May 14, 1888, to May 14, 1889, there were added to the General Library 3,505 volumes and 960 pamphlets; to the Law Library, 641 volumes; to the Philological Seminary Library, 66 volumes. The General Library now contains 66,839 volumes and 19,400 pamphlets; the Law Library, 5,326 volumes; and the Philological Seminary Library, 594 volumes. Adding to these the White Historical Library, the estimated extent of which is 30,000 volumes and 10,000 pamphlets, the total extent of the University Library is, in round numbers, over 102,000 volumes and 29,000 pamphlets.

During the year 6,231 volumes and 1,019 pamphlets were catalogued and incorporated in the dictionary catalogue of the General Library. The number of cards prepared and distributed during this period was 13,396. The dictionary catalogue now includes 47,417 volumes and pamphlets, or more than twothirds of the General Library, and with the additional assistance promised for next year, it is believed that when the Library is removed to the new building in 1891, all arrears of cataloguing will be brought up to date.

Of the catalogue of the White Historical Library, the first part, containing the books on the Reformation period, compiled under the direction of Mr. Burr, has been issued, and will be found recorded in this number of the BULLETIN.
