Practical Lessons in

Actuarial Science

By MILES MENANDER DAWSON, Consulting Actuary

NEW EDITION

ENLARGED AND IMPROVED

The Simplest, Most Comprehensive, and Most Practical Elementary Actuarial Text-Book ever published. It is issued in two volumes, one of which contains 350 pages of text, and the other 325 pages of tables.

VOLUME I.-TEXT.

This standard Text-Book, which has recently been greatly enlarged and improved, is so arranged and written that it is not only exceptionally valuable in schools and colleges, but is equally available for students without tutors. In order to fully comprehend actuarial science, as succinctly set forth in this admirable work, no knowledge of mathematics higher than elementary algebra is required, and as the notation corresponds to that of the Institute of Actuaries' Text-Book, the student can pass to that work without difficulty or confusion.

The construction and graduation of mortality tables is explained; many exercises and examples are given; contracted multiplication and division methods are demonstrated, and new chapters covering Interest, Annuities Certain, Bonds, Debentures and Instalment Loans are introduced. The construction and use of Select Tables, including "Calendar Year" select tables, and Select and Ultimate Reserves, are also explained
