He who to his destruction bowed down to Bel, and imagined that he should ascend to heaven§, had the heart of man taken from him, and was driven from his kingdom. When he was restored to his station, he then was sensible of the power of God, who casts down, and exalts; and acknowledged the perfection of the kingdom of God **. They were gathered as sheep for the ‡‡ slaughter, and their actions considered in judgment, but were delivered by the merit of the descendant of the younger§§ ruler of the kingdom.
