nwy Cong. O make thyself a tremendous name in Zion by our restoration; as thou didst prosper formerly, cause us to prosper under the seat of thy dominion. Arise, awaken the joy of all the earth, and establish thy seat in the royal city.

5 Let the light of the sun and the moon be obscured, that their worshippers may be ashamed when thou dost exalt thyself to the dominion. O let the beautiful city shine forth * pure as the sun; and in our presence reveal the glory of thy dominion.

צבאות :

The hosts that were redeemed from Zoant, sang on the night of the feast; the night which was reserved for the extirpation of the dominion of the wicked. They trod on the waters of the sea, that were measured § by the hand: they foresaw with their intellectual eyes when they should be planted, and when God received the dominion.

Op The gates of the everlasting temple are cut down, for the power is departed from them. The most Holy One will enter them again, and rule for ever; then will they lift up their heads, when Jehovah shall renew the dominion. The voluptuous resteth in tranquillity, without widowhood, because the boundaries of her kingdom have been extended. Withdraw from Edom, deliverers! and give the honour of the dominion to Jehovah.

O ye

God hateth falsehood, but that is on our tongues; Jehovah requireth truth, but it is not to be found among the corrupt; the dominion therefore is taken from us. O Almighty God! remove iniquity from thine hosts, that they may sound before thee the trumpet of dominion. O gird thyself with majesty, and invest thyself with strength, that no alien** may rule in the dominion. Thou wilt establish the world when thou shalt empty it of the wicked; cause righteousness to attend the feet of thy chosen, and crown him with the dominion. Thou shalt avenge thyself of the nations, rebuke the people, break the sceptre of the wicked, and preside over the dominion. Thou shalt destroy the idols, be exalted alone, and for ever be called the eternal One in the dominion.

by Therefore we hope, O Jehovah, our God! to

This expression seems to be the most appropriate in English to give the idea of the increasing degrees of brightness of the sun, when the clouds around it disperse; so on approaching any very bright object, from a distance, its brightness at first appears to be faint and glimmering, but gradually it assumes splendour, till its effulgence dazzles the

eyes.

Being that is exalted above every kingdom. Heshbon and Bashan stirred up war, by denying a passage to the hosts of the dominion of Jehovah. Their armies were destroyed; their land was divided, and the power of their kingdom fell. The children of Canaan were guilty of folly, in not considering that they were but strangers in the land of the children of Shem, who were of the royal family. The son of Nun slew them, till he had cleared the land before the ark of the covenant of the Ruler of the kingdom. The inhabitants of Harosheth, having then mercilessly oppressed them, being assisted by those who inhabited the extremities of the kingdom, without reward. But Jehovah warred against them, and the Hosts of Jehovah fought not for lucre: thus may all our enemies be destroyed, and the kingdom become the kingdom of God. Assyria, great as the cedar of Lebanon, blasphemously said*, I will cast down the Mighty One from the kingdom. But the fiery angel subdued them on the night of observation; then all knew that the kingdom had become the kingdom of God. He who to his destruction bowed down to Bel, and imagined that he should ascend to heaven§, had the heart of man taken from him, and was driven from his kingdom. When he was restored to his station, he then was sensible of the power of God, who casts down, and exalts; and acknowledged the perfection of the kingdom of God **. They were gathered as sheep for the ‡‡ slaughter, and their actions considered in judgment, but were delivered by the merit of the descendant of the younger§§ ruler of the kingdom. They were sold for nought, and redeemed without silver: they praised the Being who had melted the hearts of kings as water. The turtle doves were sold to the descendants of the Greeks, who removed them from the borders of their kingdom. They made them break the covenant and the law, and caused them to rebel against God; but God destroyed them by the weak, even the priests of the kingdom. Esau flattered his parent with his venison, and by his supplicating voice inherited the sword and the kingdom. (Reader.) The plain man was strengthened with the blessing of being ruler over his brethren; therefore, the dominion will yet be restored to Israel, who are called Jeshurun.

bbs I will praise my God; I will celebrate the mighty power I will declare the glory, and extol Jehovah with the crown of the dominion. I will exalt the Being that made all; that commanded, and it was done; I will glorify Jehovah, for to Jehovah belongeth the dominion. I will proclaim the victorious strength, for I am the host of Jehovah; it is therefore incumbent on me to celebrate the greatness of Jehovah. I will declare in the congregation, and to the multitude of the people to whom appertaineth true dignity, mighty strength, and universal dominion. Draw near, ye people; and approach, ye kingdoms of the earth; and behold how glorious is the power of the dominion of Jehovah! O magnify Jehovah with me, let us together extol Jehovah; and pride not yourselves on possessing the crown of an earthly kingdom. The act of converting the deep into a path, will convince ye all to whom justly belongeth the dominion. Jehovah trod down the horses of six hundred chariots in the sea how then can man presume to oppose the Being that possesses such a dominion? The earthly rulers heard and trembled: they beheld their own weakness, and were dismayed; they abhorred their own kingdoms. The people acknowledged the power, and said, To Jehovah ought to be ascribed the name of the dominion. In every generation he was despised, because he did not consider the Being that fought at the Red Sea, robed in majesty. The servant who dwelt ** in the south, rebelled against his master; for that act the earth trembled, when the servant was exalted to the kingdom.
