REQUIREMENT AND DESCRIPTION OF WORK ADD TO EXPLOSIVE PROCESSING LAB: The Explosive Processing Laboratory is an integral part of Air Force High Explosive Research and Development (HERD) facilities. In house efforts include formulating new explosive mixes, loading of explosive fill for a variety of warhead configurations and warhead testing. Explosive operations are currently maximized within the existing equipment and floor space. New processes to support weapons programs require different configuration of processing equipment and dispersal of existing equipment to satisfy safety and explosive processing criteria for new mixes. This project will provide a 1600 SF addition to the explosive processing facility and allow for in house development work on explosives. Unless the processing laboratory is expanded to meet the new processing criteria we can expect increased costs, prolonged schedules and a decline in expertise for developing advanced munitions for future threats. ECM POD STORAGE: Construct an 5840 SF addition to the existing Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) pod for maintenance and storage. The existing facility lacks sufficient space for the handling and storage of test items, administrative support, maintenance support teams, secure storage and work area for classified projects and PREVIOUS EDITION IS OBSOLETE IN THE USAF.
