REQUIREMENT: As Required. PROJECT: Construction, alteration and upgrading of facilities, utilities and pavements to support the beddown of the Ground Launched Cruise Missile (GLCM). REQUIREMENT: Basic base operating support facilities are necessary to support the GLCM and personnel assigned to the system. As the system is deployed to the field it will go to new or reopened bases or will be additive to existing missions. The manpower deploying with the system will need housing and dining facilities, administrative space, warehousing, clinics, commissaries, exchanges, storage and all the other facilities required for base operation. Without this support package the system will not be able to become operational. CURRENT SITUATION: In the United Kingdom and Italy, the first phase of the base operating support, which was funded in FY 1982, is getting underway and will provide the very basic requirements for the initial beddown. Phase II, included in this project, will provide those two locations with an additional increment of facilities to make the bases more suitable to accommodate accompanied tours. Facilities for the third country are the first increment of the base operating support to allow the initial operating capability at that location. Additional funds will be needed in FY 1984. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: For the United Kingdom and Italy it will not be possible to adequately support the people manning the base and in the third 90-276 0-82-57 MAY country it will not be possible to deploy the weapon system. ADDITIONAL: These projects are the non-NATO eligible portion of the GLCM beddown. Approximately $120 million will be funded from NATO infrastructure for operational facilities at the three locations. 1 DD, DEC 76 FORM 1391C PREVIOUS EDITION IS OBSOLETE IN THE USAF. PAGE NO 490 |
