Modification of existing facilities for ammunition storage, flightline operations, maintenance and supply. Water storage and distribution, desalination and demineralized water plant, power generation and distribution and necessary site grading drainage and road work. 11. REQUIREMENT: As Required. PROJECT: Construct/upgrade various facilities to support Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) requirements. REQUIREMENT: An intermediate staging facility with air and seaport capabilities, within tactical airlift range of potential conflict areas, is required to accommodate surge airlift throughput, stage TACAIR and land forces, and support other missions as necessary. Ras Banas is to be upgraded to support these requirements. CURRENT SITUATION: Existing facilities at Ras Banas are very sparse and are not capable of supporting any sizeable deployment. Lack of sufficient ramp space, limited taxiways, limited ammunition storage, no utility systems, and the general lack of other maintenance, supply and personnel support facilities currently make Ras Banas unusable for deployment of our RDF forces. Only the most vital facilities will be constructed to support and sustain the proposed missions. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: Failure to support these projects will severely limit our capability to deploy the RDF to locations in close proximity to the Persian Gulf, delay strategic airlift of men and material through this area, and limit our show of force options.
