PROJECT: Construction of facilities, to support US military personnel assigned to NATO Airborne Early Warning (NAEW) main operating base (MOB) Geilenkirchen, and other US personnel in the immediate region. REQUIREMENT: Geilenkirchen has been designated the MOB for the NAEW wing. NAEW forces will include approximately 450 USAF personnel. A special activities squadron detachment will provide US unique services to approximately 1,000 U.S. military personnel in the immediate region including an Army Pershing battery.

CURRENT SITUATION: Community support facilities are nonexistent at Geilenkirchen. Operational and facilities will be provided by NATO. Current US personnel at Geilenkirchen must travel to Schinnen or necessary community services. Schinnen, NL (which is closest) cannot be expanded to provide community services to military personnel and their dependents. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: Community support will not be readily available to approximately 1,000 US military personnel and their 1,500 dependents. Personnel will have to travel up to two and one-half hours to obtain their

11. REQUIREMENT: 6,700 SF ADEQUATE: 0 SUBSTANDARD: PROJECT: Construction of a new data processing facility. REQUIREMENT: A properly sized and configured facility is required to house the new Phase IV computer. The Phase IV computer acquisition program affects every USAF installation and represents a $50 million annual savings Air Force wide by replacing obsolete Burroughs 3500/3700/4700 and Univac 1050-II computers. It is necessary to support essential weapon system maintenance and supply activities, and permit more effective management of personnel, financial, engineering, and equipment resources at base level. This computer system is scheduled for delivery in August 1984. CURRENT SITUATION: The two existing computers to be replaced by the Phase IV computer are located in two separate facilities. The current physical limitation of these facilities will not permit installation of the new Phase IV computer. There is no other facility available that meets the required space criteria. Construction of a new facility is necessary to adequately accommodate the new computer equipment and associated support functions.

IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: We will have no place to house the expensive computer now on order.
