VARIOUS OPERATIONS/MAINTENANCE
FACILITIES: Construct a hydrazine
facility and install two BAK-14
aircraft arresting systems. These
facilities are required in support
of the F-16 being assigned to Luke
AFB. Hydrazine is a monopropellant
used in the F-16 emergency power
unit, and is unique to that
aircraft. Existing BAK 13 cables
sit above the pavement. The F-16
which has antennas extending below
the aircraft is subject to damage
from the cable bouncing up. The
BAK-14 sits below the surface and is
activated by the control tower.

Currently, administrative offices are located in the crowded basements of two widely separated facilities. Classroom sessions are in 10 different locations, ranging from the dining hall basement to the Civil Engineering Refrigeration Shop. Few meet environmental or acoustic standards. A centralized facility is needed to provide administrative and classroom space to support the base's extensive education activities which include education and career counseling, off-duty college and university degree programs, professional military education, orientation courses, on-the-job-training administration and testing, and military and civilian personnel supervision and management training. Over 1340 military and 530 civilians assigned to this remotely located installation participate in these programs annually.
