REQUIREMENT: A properly sized and configured facility is required to house the new Phase IV computer. The Phase IV computer acquisition program affects every USAF installation and represents a $50 million annual savings Air Force wide by replacing obsolete Burroughs 3500/3700/4700 and Univac 1050-II computers. It is necessary to support essential weapon system maintenance and supply activities, and permit more effective management of personnel, financial, engineering, and equipment resources at Base Level. The computer system is scheduled for delivery in July 1984. CURRENT SITUATION: The existing computer (Univac 1050-II) is located in a portion of the supply warehouse. The current limitation of this facility will not permit installation of the new Phase IV computer. There is no other facility available that meets the required space criteria. Construction of a few facility is necessary to adequately accommodate the new computer equipment and associated support functions. At Keflavik, base support programs data normally run on the Burroughs 3500/3700/4700 computer are sent to Langley AFB for processing. Installation of the X-3 model Phase IV computer will permit these programs to be processed on base with the resultant improved data automation customer response. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: We will have no place to house the expensive new computer now on order. |
