The work includes modification of existing facilities and energy consuming systems to conserve energy and reduce consumption of fossil fuels. 11. REQUIREMENT: As Required.

PROJECT: Provides necessary improvements, alterations, upgrade and repair to existing structures and utility systems to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

REQUIREMENT:

levels.

To continue to reduce energy consumption to acceptable

ENERGY CONSUMPTION: The buildings and utility systems involved were originally designed and constructed using criteria of an earlier, less energy conscious era. Drastic rise in fuel costs and a decreasing supply of energy resources make it no longer economically feasible or prudent to allow these conditions to remain unchanged.

IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: A serious waste of energy will continue at a time when energy prices are rapidly increasing and supplies are expected to decline.

ADDITIONAL:

The energy conservation program includes all categories of work that save building energy. Some examples follow: Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

The majority of HVAC systems were designed when energy was inexpensive and abundant. As a result, high energy consuming systems were installed with low first cost as the main consideration. New HVAC systems and components have since been developed which are energy efficient. Examples of retrofit projects which take advantage of these new innovations are replacement of terminal reheat systems with variable air volume systems and installation
