REQUIREMENT: 30,450 SF ADEQUATE: 3,650 SF PROJECT: Construct a new aircraft organizational maintenance shop to replace substandard and undersized facility. REQUIREMENT: An adequate maintenance and storage area is required to work on non-powered ground support equipment, aircraft tow tractors, tugs and deicers. Covered storage for non-powered support equipment is also required. CURRENT SITUATION: Space presently being used are existing rooms in a maintenance dock away from the apron. Due to the lack of space, equipment is being stored outside. During the winter months some equipment is stored in the maintenance docks on a temporary space available basis. Equipment that cannot be stored inside must be moved into the docks to thaw out before use. With over 500 units to maintain, the frequent winter season task of snow and ice removal before equipment can be dispatched adversely affects timely mission support. Additionally, the dock space now occupied by support equipment is critically needed for aircraft maintenance. Under present circumstances much aircraft maintenance must be performed on the ramp even during sub-freezing weather. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: The functions will continue to be performed at this northern tier base from substandard facilities with equipment and personnel exposed to the elements. MAY |
